Starting with bindgen 0.73.2 [1], `#[allow(unnecessary_transmutes)]`
are used, even when `--rust-target 1.85` is passed.

However, the lint was introduced in Rust 1.88.0. Thus building with
older Rust versions warns like:

Thus allow `unknown_lints` in the generated bindings -- only when building
with older Rust versions.

I have asked upstream if this is intentional [1], i.e. if we are supposed
to always allow unknown lints in case `bindgen` uses such attributes,
or whether it is an oversight.

A CLIPPY=1 build emitted about 15000 `as _` conversion warnings, all of
them in bindgen's generated output and none in hand-written code.

bindgen 0.73 returns each bitfield read through a trailing `as _`, and
0.72 returns it through a transmute, which the lint ignores. The
bindings and uapi crates allow `clippy::all` over the generated code.
That group does not cover `clippy::as_underscore`, a restriction lint.

Allow `clippy::as_underscore` by name in the bindings and uapi crates.

Pull char/misc/IIO/etc driver updates from Greg KH:
 "Here is the big set of char, misc, iio, counter, fpga, and other small
  driver subsystems for 7.3-rc1.

  Overall, due to some driver removals we only added a bit more code
  than removed, which was a nice change. Highlights in this merge
  request are:

   - Loads of IIO driver updates and additions

   - binder driver updates (more on that below...)

   - Removal of the SGI XP and GRU drivers as they are not used anymore
     and turn out to be pretty insecure overall

   - Removal of the obsolete ibmasm driver as it's not being used
     anymore

   - Coresight driver updates and additions

   - Mei driver udpates

   - Counter driver updates

   - FPGA driver updates

   - ICC driver updates

   - lots and lots of other tiny driver updates to resolve reported
     issues

  All of these have been in linux-next for a while"

<title>rust: uapi: replace direct asm-generic/ioctl.h include with linux/ioctl.h</title>

rust/uapi/uapi_helper.h was directly including &lt;uapi/asm-generic/ioctl.h&gt;
instead of the proper &lt;uapi/linux/ioctl.h&gt;.

On powerpc, &lt;uapi/linux/ioctl.h&gt; pulls in &lt;uapi/asm/ioctl.h&gt; first, which
defines _IOC_SIZEBITS, _IOC_DIRBITS, _IOC_NONE, and _IOC_WRITE with the
arch-specific values, before falling through to &lt;asm-generic/ioctl.h&gt;.
By bypassing that chain and including &lt;asm-generic/ioctl.h&gt; directly,
the arch-specific overrides never ran first, so when other headers in
the compilation later brought in the full arch-aware chain, Clang saw
those four macros being defined a second time and emitted:

Fix this by replacing the direct include of &lt;uapi/asm-generic/ioctl.h&gt;
with &lt;uapi/linux/ioctl.h&gt;, which is the correct arch-aware entry point
and already maintains the intended include order.

<title>rust_binder: report netlink transactions</title>

The Android Binder driver supports a netlink API that reports
transaction *failures* to a userspace daemon. This allows devices to
monitor processes with many failed transactions so that it can e.g. kill
misbehaving apps.

One very important thing that this monitors is when many oneway messages
are sent to a frozen process, so there is special handling to ensure
this scenario is surfaced over netlink.

Starting with Rust 1.98.0 (expected 2026-08-20), Rust is introducing a
couple new lints, `invalid_runtime_symbol_definitions` (deny-by-default)
and `suspicious_runtime_symbol_definitions` (warn-by-default), which check
the signature of items whose symbol name is a runtime symbol expected by
`core`.

Our build hits the second one, i.e. the warning:

Thus `allow` the lint in `bindings` and `uapi`.

A more targeted alternative to avoid `allow`ing it would be to pass
`--blocklist-function strlen` to `bindgen`, but we would perhaps need
to adjust if other C headers end up adding more (or Rust checking more).
Since it is just the less critical one that we hit, and since eventually
this should be properly fixed by getting upstream Rust to provide a flag
like GCC/Clang's `-funsigned-char` [2][3], just `allow` it for now.

<title>rust: declare cfi_encoding for lru_status</title>

By default bindgen will convert 'enum lru_status' into a typedef for an
integer. For the most part, an integer of the same size as the enum
results in the correct ABI, but in the specific case of CFI, that is not
the case. The CFI encoding is supposed to be the same as a struct called
'lru_status' rather than the name of the underlying native integer type.

To fix this, tell bindgen to generate a newtype and set the CFI type
explicitly. Note that we need to set the CFI attribute explicitly as
bindgen is using repr(transparent), which is otherwise identical to the
inner type for ABI purposes.

This allows us to remove the page range helper C function in Binder
without risking a CFI failure when list_lru_walk calls the provided
function pointer.

The --with-attribute-custom-enum argument requires bindgen v0.71 or
greater.

My testing procedure was to add this to the android17-6.18 branch and
verify that rust_shrink_free_page is successfully called without crash,
and verify that it does in fact crash when the cfi_encoding is set to
other values. Note that I couldn't test this on android16-6.12 as that
branch uses a bindgen version that is too old.

The issue that required `allow`s for `cfg(test)` code generated by
`bindgen` for layout testing was fixed back in `bindgen` 0.60.0 [1],
so it could have been removed even before the version bump, but it does
not hurt.

Thus remove it now.

Pull Char/Misc/IIO/Binder updates from Greg KH:
 "Here is the big set of char/misc/iio and other driver subsystem
  changes for 6.18-rc1.

  Loads of different stuff in here, it was a busy development cycle in
  lots of different subsystems, with over 27k new lines added to the
  tree.

  Included in here are:

   - IIO updates including new drivers, reworking of existing apis, and
     other goodness in the sensor subsystems

   - MEI driver updates and additions

   - NVMEM driver updates

   - slimbus removal for an unused driver and some other minor updates

   - coresight driver updates and additions

   - MHI driver updates

   - comedi driver updates and fixes

   - extcon driver updates

   - interconnect driver additions

   - eeprom driver updates and fixes

   - minor UIO driver updates

   - tiny W1 driver updates

  But the majority of new code is in the rust bindings and additions,
  which includes:

   - misc driver rust binding updates for read/write support, we can now
     write "normal" misc drivers in rust fully, and the sample driver
     shows how this can be done.

   - Initial framework for USB driver rust bindings, which are disabled
     for now in the build, due to limited support, but coming in through
     this tree due to dependencies on other rust binding changes that
     were in here. I'll be enabling these back on in the build in the
     usb.git tree after -rc1 is out so that developers can continue to
     work on these in linux-next over the next development cycle.

   - Android Binder driver implemented in Rust.

     This is the big one, and was driving a huge majority of the rust
     binding work over the past years. Right now there are two binder
     drivers in the kernel, selected only at build time as to which one
     to use as binder wants to be included in the system at boot time.

     The binder C maintainers all agreed on this, as eventually, they
     want the C code to be removed from the tree, but it will take a few
     releases to get there while both are maintained to ensure that the
     rust implementation is fully stable and compliant with the existing
     userspace apis.

  All of these have been in linux-next for a while"
