proc_bus_pci_read() decides how much of the config space is readable based
on capable(CAP_SYS_ADMIN), which checks the credentials of the task calling
read(), not the credentials of the process that opened the file.

The sysfs equivalent, pci_read_config(), has checked the credentials of the
opening process since commit de139a339395 ("pci: check caps from sysfs file
open to read device dependent config space"), so a privileged process can
open the config space file and pass the file descriptor to an unprivileged
process (for example, a process running a KVM guest with an assigned
device), which can then read the entire config space.  The check was
subsequently routed through the LSM framework in commit 47970b1b2aa6 ("pci:
use security_capable() when checking capablities during config space read")
and converted to the dedicated helper in commit ab0fa82b2df9 ("pci-sysfs:
use proper file capability helper function").

Thus, the two interfaces check the same capability against different
credentials.  Checking the credentials of the task calling read() makes the
outcome depend on who reads rather than who opened, so the restriction is
bypassed whenever a more privileged process reads through the descriptor.
Checking the credentials recorded in file-&gt;f_cred settles the decision at
open() time and ties it to the file, where it cannot change with the
caller.

Use file_ns_capable() to check CAP_SYS_ADMIN against the credentials in
effect when the file was opened, bringing the procfs interface in line with
the sysfs behaviour.

As a result, a file descriptor opened by a privileged process and passed to
an unprivileged one now allows the entire config space to be read through
procfs, matching sysfs.

Currently, a driver can claim a region of a device's config space as
exclusive using pci_request_config_region_exclusive(), after which a write
to that region originating from user space is expected to emit a warning
and taint the kernel.  The check is advisory only, as the write itself is
still allowed to proceed.

Since commit 278294798ac9 ("PCI: Allow drivers to request exclusive config
regions"), the sysfs config space attribute performs this check in
pci_write_config(), but the procfs interface was never updated.  A write
performed through /proc/bus/pci/BB/DD.F therefore bypasses the detection
entirely, even though both interfaces offer the same level of access.

Add the same resource_is_exclusive() check to proc_bus_pci_write().

Currently, proc_bus_pci_read() and proc_bus_pci_write() do not return early
for zero-length configuration space accesses at valid offsets.

Such an access invokes pci_config_pm_runtime_get() and
pci_config_pm_runtime_put() around transfer blocks that do nothing.

This is a problem because pci_config_pm_runtime_get() synchronously resumes
the upstream bridge through pm_runtime_get_sync(), and resumes the device
itself through pm_runtime_resume() when it is in D3cold, only for the
handler to return zero immediately afterwards.  Such a spurious wakeup
wastes power and adds needless resume latency.

The sysfs core already returns early for in-range zero-length binary
attribute accesses before pci_read_config() or pci_write_config() is
invoked.  In contrast, the VFS forwards zero-length requests to the procfs
callbacks, where they continue into runtime PM handling.

Return early from proc_bus_pci_read() and proc_bus_pci_write() when nbytes
is zero, before any runtime PM involvement.

The value returned to userspace at these offsets remains zero,
so the change is not visible to userspace.

pci_proc_attach_device() creates procfs entries for PCI devices and is
called from pci_bus_add_device().  It lazily creates the per-bus procfs
directory (bus-&gt;procdir) via proc_mkdir() on first use, and returns early
if proc_initialized is not yet set.

On x86 with ACPI, PCI enumeration occurs at subsys_initcall, before
pci_proc_init() sets proc_initialized at device_initcall.  The
for_each_pci_dev() loop in pci_proc_init() then creates procfs entries for
these already-enumerated devices, but runs without holding
pci_rescan_remove_lock.

On ARM64 with devicetree, PCI host bridges probe at device_initcall.  With
async probing enabled, pci_bus_add_device() can run concurrently with
pci_proc_init(), and both may call pci_proc_attach_device() for the same
device or for different devices on the same bus.  As pci_host_probe() holds
pci_rescan_remove_lock while pci_proc_init() does not, there is no
serialisation between the two paths.

When two threads concurrently call pci_proc_attach_device() for devices on
the same bus, both observe bus-&gt;procdir as NULL and both call proc_mkdir().
The proc filesystem serialises directory creation internally, so only one
caller succeeds.  The other results in a warning like:

  proc_dir_entry '000c:00/00.0' already registered

The caller receives NULL (duplicate entry) and unconditionally stores it to
bus-&gt;procdir, corrupting the valid pointer set by the first caller.

Serialise access to proc_initialized, proc_bus_pci_dir, bus-&gt;procdir and
dev-&gt;procent with a new mutex local to drivers/pci/proc.c, and store the
created entries to bus-&gt;procdir and dev-&gt;procent only on success, so a
failed creation can never overwrite a valid pointer.

Additionally, wrap the for_each_pci_dev() loop in pci_proc_init() with
pci_lock_rescan_remove() to serialise against concurrent PCI bus
operations, add an early return in pci_proc_attach_device() when
dev-&gt;procent is already set to make the function idempotent, and clear
bus-&gt;procdir in pci_proc_detach_bus() to prevent use of a dangling pointer
after proc_remove().

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\&lt;k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

The ability to map PCI resources to user-space is controlled by global
defines. For vfio there is VFIO_PCI_MMAP which is only disabled on s390 and
controls mapping of PCI resources using vfio-pci with a fallback option via
the pread()/pwrite() interface.

For the PCI core there is ARCH_GENERIC_PCI_MMAP_RESOURCE which enables a
generic implementation for mapping PCI resources plus the newer sysfs
interface. Then there is HAVE_PCI_MMAP which can be used with custom
definitions of pci_mmap_resource_range() and the historical /proc/bus/pci
interface. Both mechanisms are all or nothing.

For s390 mapping PCI resources is possible and useful for testing and
certain applications such as QEMU's vfio-pci based user-space NVMe driver.
For certain devices, however access to PCI resources via mappings to
user-space is not possible and these must be excluded from the general PCI
resource mapping mechanisms.

Introduce pdev-&gt;non_mappable_bars to indicate that a PCI device's BARs can
not be accessed via mappings to user-space. In the future this enables
per-device restrictions of PCI resource mapping.

For now, set this flag for all PCI devices on s390 in line with the
existing, general disable of PCI resource mapping. As s390 is the only user
of the VFI_PCI_MMAP Kconfig options this can already be replaced with a
check of this new flag. Also add similar checks in the other code protected
by HAVE_PCI_MMAP respectively ARCH_GENERIC_PCI_MMAP in preparation for
enabling these for supported devices.

The ARCH_GENERIC_PCI_MMAP_RESOURCE symbol came up in a recent discussion,
and I noticed that this was left behind by an unfinished cleanup from 2017.

The only architecture that still relies on providing its own
pci_mmap_page_range() helper instead of using the generic
pci_mmap_resource_range() is sparc. Presumably the reasons for this have
not changed, but at least this can be simplified by converting sparc to use
the same interface as the others.

The only difference between the two is the device-specific offset that gets
added to or subtracted from vma-&gt;vm_pgoff.

Change the only caller of pci_mmap_page_range() in common code to subtract
this offset and call the modern interface, while adding it back in the
sparc implementation to preserve the existing behavior.

This removes the complexities of the dual interfaces from the common code,
and keeps it all specific to the sparc architecture code. According to
David Miller, the sparc code lets user space poke into the VGA I/O port
registers by mmapping the I/O space of the parent bridge device, which is
something that the generic pci_mmap_resource_range() code apparently does
not.

The struct pci_filp_private has no users outside drivers/pci/proc.c and is
only used when HAVE_PCI_MMAP is defined.

Wrap the struct pci_filp_private definition itself in #ifdef HAVE_PCI_MMAP.

Found by cppcheck:
