<title>virtio: fix use-after-free in unregister_virtio_device()</title>

device_unregister() is device_del() plus put_device(). When the caller
holds no extra reference, that drops the last one and runs the release
callback, which for several transports frees the memory the embedded
struct virtio_device sits in. unregister_virtio_device() then calls
virtio_debug_device_exit(), which reads dev-&gt;debugfs_dir out of the freed
object.

Affected transports are the ones whose release callback frees and whose
remove path takes no reference: virtio_mmio, virtio_vdpa, virtio_uml,
mlxbf-tmfifo and virtio_ccw. virtio_pci is unaffected because
virtio_pci_remove() brackets the call with get_device() and put_device().

Remove the debugfs entries before the device can go away. They are only
accessed through the protected debugfs interface, so
debugfs_remove_recursive() waits for in-progress file operations before
returning. Tearing them down while the device is still alive is therefore
safe.

Reproduced on User-Mode Linux with CONFIG_KASAN and CONFIG_VIRTIO_DEBUG
by unbinding a virtio-uml device:

The generic virtio bus .shutdown handler, virtio_dev_shutdown(), breaks
and resets a device once it has established that the driver has no
.shutdown of its own. A driver that does implement .shutdown, to quiesce
its own activity first, still needs the same break and reset afterwards
and would otherwise have to open code it.

Factor the break + synchronize_cbs + reset sequence out of
virtio_dev_shutdown() into an exported virtio_device_shutdown() helper so
such drivers can reuse it instead of duplicating the core logic.

No functional change.

Recent QEMU versions added support for virtio SR-IOV emulation,
allowing virtio devices to expose SR-IOV VFs to the guest.
However, virtio_bus does not implement the num_vf callback of bus_type,
causing dev_num_vf() to return 0 for virtio devices even when
SR-IOV VFs are active.

net/core/rtnetlink.c calls dev_num_vf(dev-&gt;dev.parent) to populate
IFLA_NUM_VF in RTM_GETLINK responses.  For a virtio-net device,
dev.parent points to the virtio_device, whose busis virtio_bus.
Without num_vf, SR-IOV VF information is silently
omitted from tools that rely on rtnetlink, such as 'ip link show'.

Add a num_vf callback that delegates to dev_num_vf(dev-&gt;parent),
which in turn reaches the underlying transport (pci_bus_type for
virtio-pci) where the actual VF count is tracked.  Non-PCI transports
are unaffected as dev_num_vf() returns 0 when no num_vf callback is
present.

virtio pci uses word to mean "16 bits". mmio uses it to mean
"32 bits".

To avoid confusion, let's avoid the term in core virtio
altogether. Just say U64 to mean "64 bit".

Pull virtio updates from Michael Tsirkin:

The virtio specifications allows for up to 128 bits for the
device features. Soon we are going to use some of the 'extended'
bits features (above 64) for the virtio_net driver.

Introduce extended features as a fixed size array of u64. To minimize
the diffstat allows legacy driver to access the low 64 bits via a
transparent union.

Introduce an extended get_extended_features configuration callback
that devices supporting the extended features range must implement in
place of the traditional one.

Note that legacy and transport features don't need any change, as
they are always in the low 64 bit range.

It looks like GPUs are used after shutdown is invoked.
Thus, breaking virtio gpu in the shutdown callback is not a good idea -
guest hangs attempting to finish console drawing, with these warnings:

It looks like the shutdown is called in the middle of console drawing, so
we should either wait for it to finish, or let drm handle the shutdown.

This patch implements this second option:

Add an option for drivers to bypass the common break+reset handling.
As DRM is careful to flush/synchronize outstanding buffers, it looks like
GPU can just have a NOP there.

Hongyu reported a hang on kexec in a VM. QEMU reported invalid memory
accesses during the hang.

	Invalid read at addr 0x102877002, size 2, region '(null)', reason: rejected
	Invalid write at addr 0x102877A44, size 2, region '(null)', reason: rejected
	...

It was traced down to virtio-console. Kexec works fine if virtio-console
is not in use.

The issue is that virtio-console continues to write to the MMIO even after
underlying virtio-pci device is reset.

Additionally, Eric noticed that IOMMUs are reset before devices, if
devices are not reset on shutdown they continue to poke at guest memory
and get errors from the IOMMU. Some devices get wedged then.

The problem can be solved by breaking all virtio devices on virtio
bus shutdown, then resetting them.
