We must correctly update VMA anonymous page offset state on all VMA
operations that would result in it changing, with special attention given
to remapping.

We cover most cases by simply updating vma_set_range() to do so (with a
new anonymous page offset parameter), but also notably must update the
merging and mapping logic to propagate this parameter correctly.

The remap logic remains the same - we may update the anonymous page offset
if the VMA is unfaulted, but now this applies to MAP_PRIVATE file-backed
mappings too, so we update the code to reflect this.

Note that we use __linear_anon_page_index() upon remap as the VMA may be
shared, in order that we update the field consistently regardless of VMA
type.

Similarly, pass through anon page offset to the merge logic, updating the
vma_merge_struct struct to propagate it, and also use
__linear_anon_page_index() to obtain the anonymous page index so it can be
safely used for both shared and MAP_PRIVATE file-backed mappings.

In copy_vma(), the anonymous page offset is updated regardless of whether
the mapping is a CoW mapping or not. This is both to keep the anonymous
page offset consistent even for non-CoW mappings (it is set so should at
least remain correct) and makes the logic cleaner.

A self-merge however remains permitted only for mappings which can have a
populated vma-&gt;anon_vma and do not require alignment on a separate file
offset - that is pure anonymous VMAs, so only set can_self_merge if
vma_is_anonymous().

Finally, we update insert_vm_struct() to correctly set the anonymous page
offset on insertion of a VMA.

We simply ensure state is correctly propagated here, so no functional
changes are intended.

Also update VMA userland tests to reflect this change.

Replace use of the legacy vm_flags_t flags with vma_flags_t values in
create_init_stack_vma().

As part of this change we add VMA_STACK_EARLY and VMA_STACK_INCOMPLETE
vma_flags_t defines, and slightly rework create_init_stack_vma() for
clarity.

No functional change intended.

There's a large number of vm_get_page_prot(vma-&gt;vm_flags) invocations.
Make life easier by introducing vma_get_page_prot() parameterised by the
VMA.

This also makes converting vm_get_page_prot() to vma_flags_t easier.

Also update the userland VMA tests to reflect the change.

No functional change intended.

The only files which should be including vma.h are the implementation files
for the core VMA logic - vma.c, vma_init.c, and vma_exec.c.

This is in order to allow for userland testing of core VMA logic. In this
cases, vma_internal.h and vma.h are included, providing both the
dependencies upon which the core VMA logic requires and its declarations.

Userland testable VMA logic is achieved by having separate vma_internal.h
implementations for userland and kernel.

Callers other than the core VMA implementation should include internal.h
instead. This header does not need to include vma_internal.h as it only
contains the vma.h declarations, for which the includes already present
suffice.

Update code to reflect this, update comments to reflect the fact there are
3 VMA implementation files and document things more clearly.

While we're here, slightly improve the language of the comment describing
vma_exec.c.

No functional change intended.

<title>mm/vma: update vma_shrink() to not pass start, pgoff parameters</title>

vma_shrink() is only used by relocate_vma_down() to shrink the tail of a
VMA. Therefore neither the start nor the pgoff parameters make any sense.

It seemed we were passing the pgoff parameter solely to satisfy
vma_set_range()'s requirement for pgoff being specified.

Since vma_set_range() is now isolated to vma.c, we can simply introduce
__vma_set_range() which sets only vma-&gt;vm_[start, end], and invoke this
instead, removing start and pgoff from vma_shrink() altogether.

No functional change intended.

There are many instances in which linear_page_index() (as well as
linear_page_delta()) is open-coded, which is confusing and inconsistent.

Additionally, vma-&gt;vm_pgoff doesn't necessarily make it clear that this is
the page offset of the start of the VMA range.

Doing so also aids greppability.

So use vma_start_pgoff() in favour of directly accessing vma-&gt;vm_pgoff, and
linear_page_index() where we can.

This also lays the ground for future changes which will add an anonymous
page offset in order to be able to index MAP_PRIVATE-file backed anon
folios in terms of their virtual page offset.

No functional change intended.

<content type='text'>
In order to be able to do this, we need to change VM_DATA_DEFAULT_FLAGS
and friends and update the architecture-specific definitions also.

We then have to update some KSM logic to handle VMA flags, and introduce
VMA_STACK_FLAGS to define the vma_flags_t equivalent of VM_STACK_FLAGS.

We also introduce two helper functions for use during the time we are
converting legacy flags to vma_flags_t values - vma_flags_to_legacy() and
legacy_to_vma_flags().

This enables us to iteratively make changes to break these changes up into
separate parts.

We use these explicitly here to keep VM_STACK_FLAGS around for certain
users which need to maintain the legacy vm_flags_t values for the time
being.

We are no longer able to rely on the simple VM_xxx being set to zero if
the feature is not enabled, so in the case of VM_DROPPABLE we introduce
VMA_DROPPABLE as the vma_flags_t equivalent, which is set to
EMPTY_VMA_FLAGS if the droppable flag is not available.

While we're here, we make the description of do_brk_flags() into a kdoc
comment, as it almost was already.

We use vma_flags_to_legacy() to not need to update the vm_get_page_prot()
logic as this time.

Note that in create_init_stack_vma() we have to replace the BUILD_BUG_ON()
with a VM_WARN_ON_ONCE() as the tested values are no longer build time
available.

We also update mprotect_fixup() to use VMA flags where possible, though we
have to live with a little duplication between vm_flags_t and vma_flags_t
values for the time being until further conversions are made.

While we're here, update VM_SPECIAL to be defined in terms of
VMA_SPECIAL_FLAGS now we have vma_flags_to_legacy().

Finally, we update the VMA tests to reflect these changes.

<title>mm: softdirty: add pgtable_supports_soft_dirty()</title>

Patch series "mm: Add soft-dirty and uffd-wp support for RISC-V", v15.

This patchset adds support for Svrsw60t59b [1] extension which is ratified
now, also add soft dirty and userfaultfd write protect tracking for
RISC-V.

The patches 1 and 2 add macros to allow architectures to define their own
checks if the soft-dirty / uffd_wp PTE bits are available, in other words
for RISC-V, the Svrsw60t59b extension is supported on which device the
kernel is running. Also patch1-2 are removing "ifdef
CONFIG_MEM_SOFT_DIRTY" "ifdef CONFIG_HAVE_ARCH_USERFAULTFD_WP" and "ifdef
CONFIG_PTE_MARKER_UFFD_WP" in favor of checks which if not overridden by
the architecture, no change in behavior is expected.

This patchset has been tested with kselftest mm suite in which soft-dirty,
madv_populate, test_unmerge_uffd_wp, and uffd-unit-tests run and pass, and
no regressions are observed in any of the other tests.

This patch (of 6):

Some platforms can customize the PTE PMD entry soft-dirty bit making it
unavailable even if the architecture provides the resource.

Add an API which architectures can define their specific implementations
to detect if soft-dirty bit is available on which device the kernel is
running.

This patch is removing "ifdef CONFIG_MEM_SOFT_DIRTY" in favor of
pgtable_supports_soft_dirty() checks that defaults to
IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_MEM_SOFT_DIRTY), if not overridden by the architecture,
no change in behavior is expected.

We make sure to never set VM_SOFTDIRTY if !pgtable_supports_soft_dirty(),
so we will never run into VM_SOFTDIRTY checks.

<title>mm/vma: use vmg-&gt;target to specify target VMA for new VMA merge</title>

In commit 3a75ccba047b ("mm: simplify vma merge structure and expand
comments") we introduced the vmg-&gt;target field to make the merging of
existing VMAs simpler - clarifying precisely which VMA would eventually
become the merged VMA once the merge operation was complete.

New VMA merging did not get quite the same treatment, retaining the rather
confusing convention of storing the target VMA in vmg-&gt;middle.

This patch corrects this state of affairs, utilising vmg-&gt;target for this
purpose for both vma_merge_new_range() and also for vma_expand().

We retain the WARN_ON for vmg-&gt;middle being specified in
vma_merge_new_range() as doing so would make no sense, but add an
additional debug assert for setting vmg-&gt;target.

This patch additionally updates VMA userland testing to account for this
change.

<title>mm: abstract initial stack setup to mm subsystem</title>

There are peculiarities within the kernel where what is very clearly mm
code is performed elsewhere arbitrarily.

This violates separation of concerns and makes it harder to refactor code
to make changes to how fundamental initialisation and operation of mm
logic is performed.

One such case is the creation of the VMA containing the initial stack upon
execve()'ing a new process. This is currently performed in
__bprm_mm_init() in fs/exec.c.

Abstract this operation to create_init_stack_vma(). This allows us to
limit use of vma allocation and free code to fork and mm only.

We previously did the same for the step at which we relocate the initial
stack VMA downwards via relocate_vma_down(), now we move the initial VMA
establishment too.

Take the opportunity to also move insert_vm_struct() to mm/vma.c as it's
no longer needed anywhere outside of mm.
