hci_devcd_handle_pkt_init() arms dump_timeout and coredump producers
queue dump_rx without holding an hdev reference. Unregister leaves both
works live, so disconnecting during an active dump lets them access hdev
after hci_release_dev() frees it.
Shut down coredump processing during unregister. Close the producer gate
under dump_q.lock before disabling both works, then free the active buffer
and queued packets under hci_dev_lock. Serializing the gate with enqueue
prevents controller-specific workers from adding packets after the final
purge.

h4_recv_buf() is currently implemented in hci_h4.c which is only built as
part of the hci_uart module, and only when CONFIG_BT_HCIUART_H4 is
enabled. That makes the H:4 reassembly logic unusable by drivers which do
not depend on hci_uart, e.g. btusb which needs it to implement Bulk
Serialization Mode.
Move the transport agnostic part into the Bluetooth core as
h4_recv_skb(), which takes a struct hci_dev instead of a struct hci_uart,
along with struct h4_recv_pkt and the H4_RECV_* helpers, and keep
h4_recv_buf() as a thin wrapper for the hci_uart protocols.
Since every Bluetooth driver already depends on the bluetooth module this
introduces no new module dependency and no new Kconfig symbol.

Add context analysis annotations for chan->lock and chan->conn->lock
involving l2cap_chan_del() usage.
Add necessary annotations and related lockdep_assert_held to callers.
Move struct l2cap_ops definition after struct l2cap_conn, so that the
callbacks can be annotated.
In l2cap_chan_close_unlocked() we consider chan->conn->lock as locked
even if chan->conn == NULL, to avoid needing to define separate
__l2cap_chan_close/del for this NULL case.

l2cap_ecred_rsp_defer() calls l2cap_chan_del without holding chan->lock,
which ends up calling ops->teardown() with wrong lock context.
Fix by taking chan->lock in l2cap_ecred_rsp_defer(). AB-BA deadlocks
between sibling l2cap_chan are avoided here via requiring l2cap_conn::lock
to serialize all nested l2cap_chan locking on same nesting level.
In current code, there is no nested l2cap_chan locking on same nesting
level, so we can add this new requirement.
Also return early from __l2cap_ecred_conn_rsp_defer() if chan did not
have FLAG_DEFER_SETUP, as then no RSP shall be sent for it, to make sure
SMP channels are excluded.
Also hold chan reference over l2cap_chan_del(), in case chan_l reference
was the last.

Since l2cap_set_timer() does not check return value of
schedule_delayed_work(), two concurrent calls may result to l2cap_chan
refcount leak.
Change the refcounting by using mod_delayed_work() and checking its
return value.
Code paths aside from l2cap_chan_busy() hold chan->lock, so this has
little correctness impact.

l2cap_chan_close() requires holding chan->lock and chan->conn->lock if
associated chan->conn exists, to guard eg. conn->chan_l. Taking the
locks with right ordering requires handling a race condition.
Add helper function l2cap_chan_(un)lock_conn that do the locking right.
Add l2cap_chan_close_unlocked() that does not require locks to be held,
as all callsites do this lock -> close -> unlock pattern.

chan->lock must be held for __l2cap_chan_add as eg. calls to
l2cap_chan_close assume chan->conn writes are guarded by it.
It must be held for l2cap_chan_del() due to
l2cap_sock.c:l2cap_chan_conn, l2cap_monitor_timeout, etc.
Similarly it should be held for l2cap_ops::ready (assumed in 6lowpan.c).
Also teardown usually has chan->lock held, it should always have it held
to have the same locking context.
The lock is not correctly held by l2cap_core in several places.
Add the missing locks for l2cap_chan_del/add/ready(), except in
l2cap_ecred_rsp_defer() which needs separate fix as it needs lock
nesting.

Add lockdep check for RCU || hdev->lock in hci_conn_hash lookups that
return hci_conn pointer, as dereferencing that without locks can be
TOCTOU issue. It used to be several callsites did not hold appropriate
locks.
The check is equivalent to removing rcu_read_lock() and doing instead
list_for_each_entry_rcu(c, &h->list, list, lockdep_is_held(&hdev->lock))
Although there should not be any remaining callsites without locks,

For L2CAP sockets without owning sk->sk_socket, reading
l2cap_pi(sk)->chan may race against concurrent l2cap_sock_kill() ->
l2cap_sock_put_chan(). This excludes simultaneous proto_ops callbacks,
but access in l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen() has unsafe lockless read.

l2cap_chan_hold_unless_zero l2cap_put_chan(chan)

Task 1 may observe NULL which causes null-ptr-deref.
Fix the race by taking lock_sock() in l2cap_sock_kill() to
synchronize with l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen(). hold_unless_zero() is not
needed here, l2cap_pi(sk)->chan owns reference if it is non-NULL.

'uuid_count' member of struct 'discovery_state' is assigned and read
without any locks, so there is a chance of situation when
uuid_count != 0, but uuids is NULL and there will be NULL pointer
dereference.
Possible race:
'hci_update_passive_scan_sync'
'hci_discovery_filter_clear'
hdev->discovery.uuid_count = 0;
<----------------------preempted----------------------------->
'start_service_discovery'
// Set uuid_count to value != 0
hdev->discovery.uuid_count = uuid_count;
hdev->discovery.uuids = kmemdup(...);
<----------------------preempted----------------------------->
spin_lock(&hdev->discovery.lock);
kfree(hdev->discovery.uuids);
hdev->discovery.uuids = NULL;
spin_unlock(&hdev->discovery.lock);
Now uuids == NULL and uuid_count != 0.
So 'mgmt_device_found' -> 'is_filter_match' -> 'eir_has_uuids' receives
non consistent discovery state, where NULL dereference of uuids happens.
To fix it let's add discovery.lock around every read/write of uuid_count,
uuids pair of struct members. It is also important to assign uuid_count
value only after success kmemdup() allocation in
start_service_discovery(), otherwise uuids is NULL, because kmemdup failed,
but uuid_count is already assigned to non zero value.
The following panic happens:

hci_event_func() validates skb->len against ev->max_len from the
entry in hci_ev_table[]. By then, the header has already been
stripped by skb_pull(). So the max event payload is 255, but
hci_ev_table[] still uses HCI_MAX_EVENT_SIZE (260) for it, which is
imprecise.

Introduce the hook to solve issues below:
msft_vendor_evt(), the current handler for all VSEs, is unsuitable
since:
- many VSEs are not MSFT ones;
- it always corrupts the non-MSFT VSEs by calling skb_pull_data()
once the MSFT extension is enabled.
Several issues are caused by many transport drivers pre-processing
VSEs in their RX path, often an IRQ-disabled atomic context. Take
the two typical cases below as examples:
Case 1:
// no btmon log, no way to reach userspace
Step 1: handle and free @original_skb directly
Case 2:
// hurts performance and consumes GFP_ATOMIC memory
Step 1: cloned_skb = skb_clone(original_skb, GFP_ATOMIC);
// the VSE is handled here
Step 2: handle and free @cloned_skb
Step 3: hci_recv_frame(hdev, original_skb);
// already handled, but re-enters the stack's event-handling path
Step 4: hci_event_packet(hdev, original_skb);
Fix by introducing the hook with usage:
1) the transport driver registers the hook for VSEs of interest;
2) the stack calls it in process context, handling the VSE like any
other event:
- if interested, handle the VSE - no need to free it - and
return true;
- otherwise return false.

Introduce hci_devcd_state_name() to describe the devcoredump state by a
string name instead of a plain number, for several reasons:
1) Applying it in coredump.c makes the devcoredump state in log messages
more readable than a plain number.
2) Transport drivers may need to show the devcoredump state name too.
3) In future, the universal state name could be notified to userspace
via uevent, allowing a universal application (e.g. a daemon) to be
developed to save the coredump, which is otherwise discarded by the
device coredump core after 5 minutes (DEVCD_TIMEOUT); see

MGMT_EV_DEVICE_DISCONNECTED carries a reason field which is defined to
be one of MGMT_DEV_DISCONN_* (0x00..0x05). hci_disconn_complete_evt()
converts the HCI error with hci_to_mgmt_reason(), but two other paths
pass the raw HCI error straight through:
hci_cs_disconnect() -> cp->reason
mgmt_connect_failed() -> status
The latter is reached whenever the adapter is powered off or suspended:
hci_disconnect_all_sync() aborts every link with
HCI_ERROR_REMOTE_POWER_OFF, hci_disconnect_sync() deliberately does not
wait for HCI_EV_DISCONN_COMPLETE for that reason, so that
hci_abort_conn_sync() finishes the connection off through
hci_conn_failed() instead.
As a result userspace sees an out of range reason:

l2cap_sock_new_connection_cb() returned l2cap_pi(sk)->chan after
release_sock(parent). Once the parent lock is dropped the newly
enqueued child socket sk is reachable via the accept queue, so another
task can accept and free it before the callback dereferences sk,
resulting in a use-after-free.
Rework the ->new_connection() op so the core, rather than the callback,
owns the child channel's lifetime. The op now receives a pre-allocated
new_chan and returns an errno instead of allocating and returning a
channel. l2cap_new_connection() allocates the child channel and links
it into the conn list via __l2cap_chan_add() before invoking the
callback, so the conn-list reference keeps the channel alive once
release_sock(parent) exposes the socket to other tasks.
Channel configuration that was duplicated in l2cap_sock_init() and the
various new_connection callbacks is consolidated into
l2cap_chan_set_defaults(), which now inherits from the parent channel
when one is supplied.

hci_abort_conn() read hci_skb_event(hdev->sent_cmd) when a connection
was pending, but hdev->sent_cmd can be NULL while req_status is still
HCI_REQ_PEND, leading to a NULL pointer dereference and a general
protection fault from the hci_rx_work() receive path.
Instead of inspecting hdev->sent_cmd, track the in-flight create
connection command with a new per-connection HCI_CONN_CREATE flag and
route all cancellation through hci_cancel_connect_sync(), which
dispatches to a dedicated per-type cancel function. The create command
is in exactly one of two states: still queued, or in flight. The cancel
function holds cmd_sync_work_lock across the whole decision: the worker
takes this lock to dequeue every entry, so while it is held a queued
command cannot start running and an in-flight command cannot complete
and let the next command become pending. This keeps the flag test and
hci_cmd_sync_cancel() atomic with respect to the worker, so a queued
command is simply dequeued, and an in-flight command owned by this
connection is cancelled without the risk of cancelling an unrelated
command that became pending in the meantime. CIS uses the same flag
mechanism via HCI_CONN_CREATE_CIS but cannot be dequeued per-connection.
hci_acl_create_conn_sync() and hci_le_create_conn_sync() clear
HCI_CONN_CREATE after the create command completes, but the command
status handler can free conn via hci_conn_del() (for example when the
controller rejects the connection) while the worker is still blocked on
the connection complete event. Hold a reference on conn across the
create command so the flag can be cleared without a use-after-free.

Fix it by having chan->conn hold a reference to l2cap_conn (via
l2cap_conn_get) when the channel is added to the connection, and
releasing it in the channel destructor. This ensures the l2cap_conn
remains alive as long as the channel exists.
A new FLAG_DEL channel flag is introduced to indicate that the channel
has been deleted from its connection. l2cap_chan_del() atomically sets
this flag using test_and_set_bit() instead of setting chan->conn to
NULL. All asynchronous workers (l2cap_chan_timeout, l2cap_ack_timeout,
l2cap_monitor_timeout, l2cap_retrans_timeout) and l2cap_chan_send()
check FLAG_DEL to determine whether the channel has been torn down,
rather than testing chan->conn for NULL.

net/bluetooth/l2cap_core.c:l2cap_sig_channel() accepts BR/EDR
signaling packets up to the channel MTU and dispatches each command
without enforcing the signaling MTU (MTUsig). A Bluetooth BR/EDR peer
within radio range can send a fixed-channel CID 0x0001 packet that is
larger than MTUsig and contains many L2CAP_ECHO_REQ commands before
pairing. In a real-radio stock-kernel run, one 681-byte signaling
packet containing 168 zero-length ECHO_REQ commands made the target
transmit 168 ECHO_RSP frames over about 220 ms.
Impact: a Bluetooth BR/EDR peer within radio range, before pairing, can
force 168 ECHO_RSP frames from one 681-byte fixed-channel signaling
packet containing packed ECHO_REQ commands.
Define Linux's BR/EDR signaling MTU as the spec minimum of 48 bytes and
reject any larger signaling packet with one L2CAP_COMMAND_REJECT_RSP
carrying L2CAP_REJ_MTU_EXCEEDED before any command is dispatched.
The Bluetooth Core spec wording for MTUExceeded says the reject
identifier shall match the first request command in the packet, and
that packets containing only responses shall be silently discarded.
Linux intentionally deviates from that prescription: silently
discarding desynchronizes the peer because the remote stack never
learns its responses were dropped, and locating the first request
command requires walking command headers past MTUsig, i.e. processing
bytes from a packet we have already decided is too large to process.
We therefore always emit one reject and use the identifier from the
first command header, a single fixed-offset byte read.
The unrestricted BR/EDR signaling parser and ECHO_REQ response path both
trace to the initial git import; no later introducing commit is
available for a Fixes tag.

bt_sock_poll() walks the accept queue without synchronization, while
child teardown can unlink the same socket and drop its last reference.
The unsynchronized accept queue walk has existed since the initial
Bluetooth import.
Protect accept_q with a dedicated lock for queue updates and polling.
Also rework bt_accept_dequeue() to take temporary child references under
the queue lock before dropping it and locking the child socket.

When a BLE peripheral sends an L2CAP Connection Parameter Update Request
the processing path is:
process_pending_rx() [takes conn->lock]
l2cap_le_sig_channel()
l2cap_conn_param_update_req()
hci_le_conn_update() [takes hdev->lock]
Meanwhile other code paths take the locks in the opposite order:
l2cap_chan_connect() [takes hdev->lock]
...
mutex_lock(&conn->lock)
l2cap_conn_ready() [hdev->lock via hci_cb_list_lock]
...
mutex_lock(&conn->lock)
This is a classic AB/BA deadlock which lockdep reports as a circular
locking dependency when connecting a BLE MIDI keyboard (Carry-On FC-49).
Fix this by making hci_le_conn_update() defer the HCI command through
hci_cmd_sync_queue() so it no longer needs to take hdev->lock in the
caller context. The sync callback uses __hci_cmd_sync_status_sk() to
wait for the HCI_EV_LE_CONN_UPDATE_COMPLETE event, then updates the
stored connection parameters (hci_conn_params) and notifies userspace
(mgmt_new_conn_param) only after the controller has confirmed the update.
A reference on hci_conn is held via hci_conn_get()/hci_conn_put() for
the lifetime of the queued work to prevent use-after-free, and
hci_conn_valid() is checked before proceeding in case the connection was
removed while the work was pending. The hci_dev_lock is held across
hci_conn_valid() and all conn field accesses to prevent a concurrent
disconnect from invalidating the connection mid-use.

-Wflex-array-member-not-at-end was introduced in GCC-14, and we are
getting ready to enable it, globally.
struct hci_std_codecs and struct hci_std_codecs_v2 are flexible
structures, this is structures that contain a flexible-array member
(__u8 codec[]; and struct hci_std_codec_v2 codec[];, correspondingly.)
Since struct hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs and struct
hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs_v2 are defined by hardware, we
create the new struct hci_std_codecs_hdr and struct hci_std_codecs_v2_hdr
types, and use them to replace the object types causing trouble in
struct hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs and struct
hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs_v2, namely struct hci_std_codecs
std_codecs; and struct hci_std_codecs_v2_hdr std_codecs;.
Also, once -fms-extensions is enabled, we can use transparent struct
members in both struct hci_std_codecs and struct hci_std_codecs_v2_hdr.
Notice that the newly created types does not contain the flex-array
member `codec`, which is the object causing the -Wfamnae warnings.
After these changes, the size of struct hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs
and struct hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs_v2, along with their
member's offsets remain the same, hence the memory layouts don't
change:
Before changes:
struct hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs {

struct hci_vnd_codecs_v2 vendor_codecs; /* 2 1 */
/* size: 3, cachelines: 1, members: 3 */
/* last cacheline: 3 bytes */
} __attribute__((__packed__));
After changes:
struct hci_rp_read_local_supported_codecs {
__u8 status; /* 0 1 */
struct hci_std_codecs_hdr std_codecs; /* 1 1 */
struct hci_vnd_codecs vnd_codecs; /* 2 1 */

struct hci_vnd_codecs_v2 vendor_codecs; /* 2 1 */
/* size: 3, cachelines: 1, members: 3 */
/* last cacheline: 3 bytes */
} __attribute__((__packed__));

represents a bitfield where multiple PHYs can be set and make the same
change also to HCI_OP_LE_SET_CIG_PARAMS since both c_phy and p_phy

This also fixes the assumption that hci_evt_le_cis_established PHYs
fields are compatible with bt_iso_io_qos, they are not, the fields in
hci_evt_le_cis_established represent just a single PHY value so they
need to be converted to bitfield when set in bt_iso_io_qos.

conn->le_{tx,rx}_phy is not actually a bitfield as it set by
HCI_EV_LE_PHY_UPDATE_COMPLETE it is actually correspond to the current
PHY in use not what is supported by the controller, so this introduces
different fields (conn->le_{tx,rx}_def_phys) to track what PHYs are
supported by the connection.

This makes sure hci_conn is initialized with the identity address if
a matching IRK exists which avoids the trouble of having to do it at
multiple places which seems to be missing (e.g. CIS, BIS and PA).

This makes it possible to bind to a different destination address
after being connected (BT_CONNECTED, BT_CONNECT2) which then triggers
PAST Sender proceedure to transfer the PA Sync to the destination
address.
