2026-07-09ACPI/IORT: Implement ACPI infrastructure to enable GICv5 IWB probe deferralLorenzo Pieralisi
Implement an IORT ACPI hook to retrieve the acpi_handle of the interrupt controller handling a specific GSI (if any, on GICv5 systems only the IWB is represented in firmware with an ACPI device object) and add the IWB to the list of devices whose dependencies can be detected (and cleared) in ACPI core to guarantee that probe dependencies for the IWB can be satisfied. Enable autodep detection for arm64 by adding the arch_acpi_add_auto_dep() callback in the ACPI IORT driver. 2026-06-03ACPI: GTDT: Account for GTDTv3 size when walking the platform timer descriptorsMarc Zyngier
Since ARMv8.1, the architecture has grown an EL2-private virtual timer. This has been described in ACPI since ACPI v6.3 and revision 3 of the GTDT table. An aditional structure was added in ACPICA, though in a rather bizarre way, and merged in v5.1 as 8f5a14d053100 ("ACPICA: ACPI 6.3: add GTDT Revision 3 support"). Finally plug the table parsing in GTDT, and correct the parsing of the platform timer subtables to account for the expanded size of the base table. This also comes with some extra sanitisation of the table, in the unlikely case someone got it wrong... 2026-04-27ACPI: arm64: cpuidle: Tolerate platforms with no deep PSCI idle statesBreno Leitao
Commit cac173bea57d ("ACPI: processor: idle: Rework the handling of acpi_processor_ffh_lpi_probe()") moved the acpi_processor_ffh_lpi_probe() call from acpi_processor_setup_cpuidle_dev(), where its return value was ignored, to acpi_processor_get_power_info(), where it is now treated as a hard failure. As a result, platforms where psci_acpi_cpu_init_idle() returned -ENODEV stopped registering any cpuidle states, forcing CPUs to busy-poll when idle. On NVIDIA Grace (aarch64) systems with PSCIv1.1, pr->power.count is 1 (only WFI, no deep PSCI states beyond it), so the previous "count = pr->power.count - 1; if (count <= 0) return -ENODEV;" check returned -ENODEV for all 72 CPUs and disabled cpuidle entirely. The lpi_states count is already validated in acpi_processor_get_lpi_info(), so the check here is redundant. Simplify the loop to iterate over lpi_states[1..power.count). When only WFI is present, the loop body simply does not execute and the function returns 0, which is the correct outcome: there is nothing to validate for FFH and no error to report. 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) To probe an IWB in an ACPI based system it is required: - to implement the IORT functions handling the IWB IORT node and create functions to retrieve IWB firmware information - to augment the driver to match the DSDT ACPI "ARMH0003" device and retrieve the IWB wire and trigger mask from the GSI interrupt descriptor in the IWB msi_domain_ops.msi_translate() function Make the required driver changes to enable IWB probing in ACPI systems. The GICv5 GSI format requires special handling for IWB routed IRQs. Add IWB GSI detection to the top level driver gic_v5_get_gsi_domain_id() function so that the correct IRQ domain for a GSI can be detected by parsing the GSI and check whether it is an IWB-backed IRQ or not. On ACPI ARM64 systems the GICv5 ITS configuration and translate frames are described in the MADT table. Refactor the current GICv5 ITS driver code to share common functions between ACPI and OF and implement ACPI probing in the GICv5 ITS driver. Add iort_msi_xlate() to map a device ID and retrieve an MSI controller fwnode node for ACPI systems and update pci_msi_map_rid_ctlr_node() to use it in its ACPI code path. Add the required functions to IORT code for deviceID retrieval and IRQ domain registration and look-up so that the GICv5 ITS driver in an ACPI based system can be successfully probed. Add code to parse the arm64 specific MPAM table, looking up the cache level from the PPTT and feeding the end result into the MPAM driver. This happens in two stages. Platform devices are created first for the MSC devices. Once the driver probes it calls acpi_mpam_parse_resources() to discover the RIS entries the MSC contains. For now the MPAM hook mpam_ris_create() is stubbed out, but will update the MPAM driver with optional discovered data about the RIS entries. 2025-03-11iommu: Get DT/ACPI parsing into the proper probe pathRobin Murphy
In hindsight, there were some crucial subtleties overlooked when moving {of,acpi}_dma_configure() to driver probe time to allow waiting for IOMMU drivers with -EPROBE_DEFER, and these have become an ever-increasing source of problems. The IOMMU API has some fundamental assumptions that iommu_probe_device() is called for every device added to the system, in the order in which they are added. Calling it in a random order or not at all dependent on driver binding leads to malformed groups, a potential lack of isolation for devices with no driver, and all manner of unexpected concurrency and race conditions. We've attempted to mitigate the latter with point-fix bodges like iommu_probe_device_lock, but it's a losing battle and the time has come to bite the bullet and address the true source of the problem instead. The crux of the matter is that the firmware parsing actually serves two distinct purposes; one is identifying the IOMMU instance associated with a device so we can check its availability, the second is actually telling that instance about the relevant firmware-provided data for the device. However the latter also depends on the former, and at the time there was no good place to defer and retry that separately from the availability check we also wanted for client driver probe. Nowadays, though, we have a proper notion of multiple IOMMU instances in the core API itself, and each one gets a chance to probe its own devices upon registration, so we can finally make that work as intended for DT/IORT/VIOT platforms too. All we need is for iommu_probe_device() to be able to run the iommu_fwspec machinery currently buried deep in the wrong end of {of,acpi}_dma_configure(). Luckily it turns out to be surprisingly straightforward to bootstrap this transformation by pretty much just calling the same path twice. At client driver probe time, dev->driver is obviously set; conversely at device_add(), or a subsequent bus_iommu_probe(), any device waiting for an IOMMU really should *not* have a driver already, so we can use that as a condition to disambiguate the two cases, and avoid recursing back into the IOMMU core at the wrong times. Obviously this isn't the nicest thing, but for now it gives us a functional baseline to then unpick the layers in between without many more awkward cross-subsystem patches. There are some minor side-effects like dma_range_map potentially being created earlier, and some debug prints being repeated, but these aren't significantly detrimental. Let's make things work first, then deal with making them nice. With the basic flow finally in the right order again, the next step is probably turning the bus->dma_configure paths inside-out, since all we really need from bus code is its notion of which device and input ID(s) to parse the common firmware properties with... 2024-11-05ACPI/IORT: Support CANWBS memory access flagNicolin Chen
The IORT spec, Issue E.f (April 2024), adds a new CANWBS bit to the Memory Access Flag field in the Memory Access Properties table, mainly for a PCI Root Complex. This CANWBS defines the coherency of memory accesses to be not marked IOWB cacheable/shareable. Its value further implies the coherency impact from a pair of mismatched memory attributes (e.g. in a nested translation case): 0x0: Use of mismatched memory attributes for accesses made by this device may lead to a loss of coherency. 0x1: Coherency of accesses made by this device to locations in Conventional memory are ensured as follows, even if the memory attributes for the accesses presented by the device or provided by the SMMU are different from Inner and Outer Write-back cacheable, Shareable. Note that the loss of coherency on a CANWBS-unsupported HW typically could occur to an SMMU that doesn't implement the S2FWB feature where additional cache flush operations would be required to prevent that from happening. Add a new ACPI_IORT_MF_CANWBS flag and set IOMMU_FWSPEC_PCI_RC_CANWBS upon the presence of this new flag. CANWBS and S2FWB are similar features, in that they both guarantee the VM can not violate coherency, however S2FWB can be bypassed by PCI No Snoop TLPs, while CANWBS cannot. Thus CANWBS meets the requirements to set IOMMU_CAP_ENFORCE_CACHE_COHERENCY. Architecturally ARM has expected that VFIO would disable No Snoop through PCI Config space, if this is done then the two would have the same protections. 2024-11-04ACPI: GTDT: Tighten the check for the array of platform timer structuresZheng Zengkai
As suggested by Marc and Lorenzo, first we need to check whether the platform_timer entry pointer is within gtdt bounds (< gtdt_end) before de-referencing what it points at to detect the length of the platform timer struct and then check that the length of current platform_timer struct is also valid, i.e. the length is not zero and within gtdt_end. Now next_platform_timer() only checks against gtdt_end for the entry of subsequent platform timer without checking the length of it and will not report error if the check failed and the existing check in function acpi_gtdt_init() is also not enough. Modify the for_each_platform_timer() iterator and use it combined with a dedicated check function platform_timer_valid() to do the check against table length (gtdt_end) for each element of platform timer array in function acpi_gtdt_init(), making sure that both their entry and length actually fit in the table. There's no real need for callers to resolve ops from a fwnode in order to then pass both to iommu_fwspec_init() - it's simpler and more sensible for that to resolve the ops itself. This in turn means we can centralise the notion of checking for a present driver, and enforce that fwspecs aren't allocated unless and until we know they will be usable. Also use this opportunity to modernise with some "new" helpers that arrived shortly after this code was first written; the generic fwnode_handle_get() clears up that ugly get/put mismatch, while of_fwnode_handle() can now abstract those open-coded dereferences. 2024-04-16coresight: debug: Move ACPI support from AMBA driver to platform driverAnshuman Khandual
Add support for the cpu debug devices in a new platform driver, which can then be used on ACPI based platforms. This change would now allow runtime power management for ACPI based systems. The driver would try to enable the APB clock if available. But first this renames and then refactors debug_probe() and debug_remove(), making sure they can be used both for platform and AMBA drivers.
