The QST QMC6308 is a 3-axis anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR)
magnetometer on I2C, found e.g. in the Fairphone 6. Its register map
is not compatible with the QMC5883L's, so add a separate driver rather
than extending the QMC5883L driver.
Support raw X/Y/Z reads, output data rate, field range, filter
oversampling ratio, the mount matrix, and runtime PM.
Run measurements in the chip's periodic "normal" mode paced by the
DRDY flag rather than in its one-shot "single" mode: the datasheet
specifies no conversion time that could bound a one-shot wait, while
normal mode is paced by the specified output data rates, which also
keeps the sampling_frequency ABI meaningful.
Runtime PM puts the chip into its suspend mode after 500 ms without a
reading, dropping supply current to a few microamps. The suspended
chip retains its registers and keeps responding on I2C, so resuming
only rewrites the mode field and discards one stale sample, and
configuration changes apply even while suspended; VDD is left enabled
across runtime suspend.

device exposure
The driver currently exposes the IIO device to userspace before
completing sensor hub callback registration, and similarly removes
callbacks while the device can still be accessed during teardown.
This creates a timing window where userspace may enable the buffer
before callbacks are available. In such cases:
- samples can be dropped,
- buffered reads may observe stale or no data.
Reorder probe and remove paths to ensure callbacks are active before
device exposure and are removed after device is no longer accessible.
This avoids a race window leading to data loss.

While being less compact, using named initializers allows to more easily
see which members of the structs are assigned which value without having
to lookup the declaration of the struct. And it's also more robust
against changes to the struct definition.
The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct
spi_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union.
This patch doesn't modify the compiled arrays, only their representation
in source form benefits. The former was confirmed with x86 and arm64
builds.

The drivers explicitly set the .driver_data member of struct
spi_device_id to zero without relying on that value. Drop these unused
assignments.
While touching these arrays unify spacing and use named initializers for
.name.
This patch doesn't modify the compiled arrays, only their representation

The driver supports a single chip variant only. Simplify the driver by
hard-coding the device properties instead of using the id_table's
abstraction for a single chip type and a lookup in a table with only one
entry.

Currently in the AK8975 driver there are four instances where potential
uninitialized kernel stack memory leaks can occur. If
i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data_or_emulated() returns a value less than
the size of the buffer, uninitialized bytes are retained in the buffer
and later the buffer is passed on to IIO buffers, potentially leaking
memory to userspace.
Fix this by adding checks whether the return value of the function is
equal to the size of the buffer and subsequently if the value is
lesser than zero to distinguish from a returned error code.

Currently, the ak8975_start_read_axis() can be called while the device
is autosuspended, causing two issues:
1. I2C transfers in the aforementioned function will fail or timeout
because ak8975_runtime_suspend() disables the device regulators.
2. Since ak8975_fill_buffer() does not hold runtime references,
ak8975_runtime_suspend() can run concurrently, and since PM callbacks
do not use a locking mechanism, it may cause a race accessing the
control register via the I2C bus.
Fix this issue by adding struct iio_buffer_setup_ops that contains
preenable and postdisable functions to ensure correct that device is
powered on when running a buffered capture.

The driver currently uses while loops and msleep() for polling during
conversion waits.
Replace the custom polling loops with readx_poll_timeout() and
read_poll_timeout() macros from <linux/iopoll.h>. This reduces
boilerplate, standardizes timeout handling and improves overall code
readability, keeping the original timing and error behaviour. Add
<linux/time.h> for USEC_PER_MSEC macro instead of using magic numbers.

Refactor wait_conversion_complete*_() helper function to accept poll
and timeout values directly as parameters. This improves the
readability of the code and does not rely on hardcoded macros.
Besides that, fix the home grown and obviously wrong in some cases the
jiffy-based timeout.

The driver currently returns -EINVAL on polling timeout instead of
-ETIMEDOUT.
Replace return code for -ETIMEDOUT and remove unnecessary error
message as -ETIMEDOUT is a standard POSIX error. Also replace
instances of -EINVAL in comments.

required by the sensor for hardware delays.
fsleep() automatically selects the optimal sleep mechanism, simplifying
driver code and time management.

Replace mutex_lock() and mutex_unlock() calls in rm3100-core.c with
the more modern guard(mutex)() family. This will help modernize the
driver and bring it up-to-date with modern available macros/functions.
While replacing mutex_lock() and mutex_unlock(), the critical sections
of rm3100_read_mag() and rm3100_get_samp_freq() have been extended to
include negligible operations for cleaner logic.
Add new helper-wrapper function rm3100_regmap_bulk_read_locked() to
help keep rm3100_trigger_handler() switch-cases clean while maintaining
mutex locking and avoiding re-entrancy risks from potential callbacks.
While at it, remove redundant gotos where applicable, and use direct
returns instead. In addition, remove regmap variable in
rm3100_trigger_handler() as its references have been replaced with
variable data.

The device tree binding for st,lis2mdl does not support
st,drdy-int-pin property. However, when no platform data is provided
and the property is absent, the driver falls back to default_magn_pdata
which hardcodes drdy_int_pin = 2. This causes
`st_sensors_set_drdy_int_pin` to fail with -EINVAL because the LIS2MDL
sensor settings have no INT2 DRDY mask defined.
Fix this by checking the sensor's INT2 DRDY mask availability at
probe time and selecting the appropriate default pin. Sensors that
do not support INT2 DRDY will default to INT1, while all others
retain the existing default of INT2.

Use guard() and scoped_guard() to replace manual mutex lock/unlock
calls. This simplifies error handling and ensures RAII-style cleanup.
guard() is used in read_raw, write_raw, trig_reen, and
trigger_set_state. Case blocks using guard() in read_raw and write_raw
are wrapped in braces at the case label level to ensure clear scope for
the cleanup guards.
A bmc150_magn_set_power_mode_locked() helper is added to deduplicate
the lock-call-unlock pattern used by remove, runtime_suspend, suspend,
and resume.
The trigger_handler function is left unchanged as mixing guard() with
goto error paths can be fragile.
