2026-07-28media: vimc: fix pixel format lookup in enum_framesizesArash Golgol
vimc_capture_enum_framesizes() looks up the requested format using vimc_pix_map_by_code(), which searches the pix map table by media bus code (MEDIA_BUS_FMT_*). However, v4l2_frmsizeenum::pixel_format holds a V4L2 pixel format (V4L2_PIX_FMT_*), not a media bus code, so valid pixel formats end up being rejected with -EINVAL. Fix this by using vimc_pix_map_by_pixelformat() instead, which performs the lookup by pixel format as the ioctl expects. 2026-07-17media: vivid: always allow meta output streamingHans Verkuil
The vivid metadata output emulation only works if the video input is configured for a webcam. That makes no sense, and it is in fact a copy-and-paste from the metadata capture support. Always allow metadata output, just make sure that when the metadata is processed it only sets the brightness/saturation/ hue/contrast controls if they have been defined: if vivid was instantiation without video capture support, then those controls are missing. This change ensures that the test-media regression script correctly tests metadata output streaming. 2026-07-15media: vicodec: fix out-of-bounds write in FWHT encoderJunrui Luo
vidioc_s_fmt_vid_out() sizes the encoder CAPTURE buffer from the compressed descriptor pixfmt_fwht, whose sizeimage_mult is 3: coded_w * coded_h * 3 + sizeof(struct fwht_cframe_hdr). fwht_encode_frame() encodes one plane per component, and an incompressible plane takes the FWHT_FRAME_UNENCODED path in encode_plane(), copying the plane verbatim. For a 4-component pixel format all four planes are full resolution (width_div == height_div == 1), so a frame that forces every plane through the unencoded fallback writes sizeof(struct fwht_cframe_hdr) + 4 * coded_w * coded_h bytes, overrunning the plane by coded_w * coded_h, which can result in corruption of adjacent kernel heap memory. Bump pixfmt_fwht.sizeimage_mult from 3 to 4, matching the largest components_num among the supported raw formats, so the capture buffer is always large enough for the unencoded fallback. pixel_rate is set to VIMC_PIXEL_RATE_FIXED, which the code expects to fit in 32 bits. Make that constraint into a WARN_ON, so if we ever break that constraint a kernel warning will be triggered. It also fixes the following cocci warning: ./test-drivers/vimc/vimc-sensor.c:107:1-7: WARNING: do_div() does a 64-by-32 division, please consider using div64_u64 instead. 2026-05-20media: vivid: check for vb2_is_busy() when toggling capsHans Verkuil
The vivid_update_format_cap/out() functions must only be called if the capture/output queue are not busy. But for the controls that select the CROP/COMPOSE/SCALE capability that is not checked. Only when streaming starts will they be set to 'grabbed' and it is impossible to change the control, but between REQBUFS and STREAMON you are still allowed to set these controls. Since vivid_update_format_cap/out will change the format, this can cause unexpected results. Besides adding these checks, also add a WARN_ON in vivid_update_format_cap/out() if the queue is busy. I'm 90% certain that this is the cause of this syzbot bug: https://syzkaller.appspot.com/bug?extid=dac8f5eaa46837e97b89 But since we never have reproducers, it is hard to be certain. In any case, these checks are needed regardless. 2026-05-20media: Use named initializers for arrays of i2c_device_dataUwe Kleine-König (The Capable Hub)
While being less compact, using named initializers allows to more easily see which members of the structs are assigned which value without having to lookup the declaration of the struct. And it's also more robust against changes to the struct definition. The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct i2c_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union. While touching all these arrays, unify usage of whitespace and commas. This patch doesn't modify the compiled arrays, only their representation in source form benefits. 2026-05-05media: vivid: fix cleanup bugs in vivid_init()Guangshuo Li
When platform_device_register() fails in vivid_init(), the embedded struct device in vivid_pdev has already been initialized by device_initialize(), but the failure path jumps to free_output_strings without dropping the device reference for the current platform device: vivid_init() -> platform_device_register(&vivid_pdev) -> device_initialize(&vivid_pdev.dev) -> setup_pdev_dma_masks(&vivid_pdev) -> platform_device_add(&vivid_pdev) This leads to a reference leak when platform_device_register() fails. Fix this by calling platform_device_put() before jumping to the common cleanup path. Also, the unreg_driver label incorrectly calls platform_driver_register() instead of platform_driver_unregister(), which breaks cleanup when workqueue creation fails after successful driver registration. Fix that as well. The reference leak was identified by a static analysis tool I developed and confirmed by manual review. The incorrect cleanup call was found during code inspection. 2026-05-05media: vidtv: fix NULL pointer dereference in vidtv_mux_push_siRuslan Valiyev
syzbot reported a general protection fault in vidtv_psi_ts_psi_write_into [1]. vidtv_mux_get_pid_ctx() can return NULL, but vidtv_mux_push_si() does not check for this before dereferencing the returned pointer to access the continuity counter. This leads to a general protection fault when accessing a near-NULL address. The root cause is that vidtv_mux_pid_ctx_init() does not check the return value of vidtv_mux_create_pid_ctx_once() for PMT section PIDs. If the allocation fails, the PID context is never created, but init returns success. The subsequent vidtv_mux_push_si() call then gets NULL from vidtv_mux_get_pid_ctx() and crashes. Fix both the root cause (add error check in vidtv_mux_pid_ctx_init for PMT PIDs) and add defensive NULL checks in vidtv_mux_push_si for all vidtv_mux_get_pid_ctx() calls. 2026-03-16media: vidtv: fix nfeeds state corruption on start_streaming failureRuslan Valiyev
syzbot reported a memory leak in vidtv_psi_service_desc_init [1]. When vidtv_start_streaming() fails inside vidtv_start_feed(), the nfeeds counter is left incremented even though no feed was actually started. This corrupts the driver state: subsequent start_feed calls see nfeeds > 1 and skip starting the mux, while stop_feed calls eventually try to stop a non-existent stream. This state corruption can also lead to memory leaks, since the mux and channel resources may be partially allocated during a failed start_streaming but never cleaned up, as the stop path finds dvb->streaming == false and returns early. Fix by decrementing nfeeds back when start_streaming fails, keeping the counter in sync with the actual number of active feeds. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. When true, it causes the function to copy the V4L2_BUF_FLAG_KEYFRAME, V4L2_BUF_FLAG_BFRAME and V4L2_BUF_FLAG_PFRAME flags from the output buffer to the capture buffer. There is no use cases in any upstream driver for copying the flags. KEY/P/B frames are properties of the bitstream buffer in some formats. Once decoded, this is no longer a property of the video frame and should be discarded. It was considered useful to know if an uncompressed frame was decoded from a KEY/P/B compressed frame, and to preserve that information if that same uncompressed frame was passed through another M2M device (e.g. a scaler). However, the V4L2 documentation makes it clear that the flags are meant for compressed frames only. Drop the copy_frame_flags argument from v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata(). In the set format handler, the check may have been intended to catch invalid format types, but that's not needed as the V4L2 core picks the appropriate VIDIOC_S_FMT ioctl handler based on the format type, so the type can't be incorrect. In the get format handler, the return value is not used for any purpose other than the NULL check, which was therefore probably intended to catch invalid format types. That's not needed for the same reason as in the set format handler. Drop the unneeded return value checks and, as the function has no side effect, the unneeded function call as well. 2025-10-14media: vidtv: initialize local pointers upon transfer of memory ownershipJeongjun Park
vidtv_channel_si_init() creates a temporary list (program, service, event) and ownership of the memory itself is transferred to the PAT/SDT/EIT tables through vidtv_psi_pat_program_assign(), vidtv_psi_sdt_service_assign(), vidtv_psi_eit_event_assign(). The problem here is that the local pointer where the memory ownership transfer was completed is not initialized to NULL. This causes the vidtv_psi_pmt_create_sec_for_each_pat_entry() function to fail, and in the flow that jumps to free_eit, the memory that was freed by vidtv_psi_*_table_destroy() can be accessed again by vidtv_psi_*_event_destroy() due to the uninitialized local pointer, so it is freed once again. Therefore, to prevent use-after-free and double-free vulnerability, local pointers must be initialized to NULL when transferring memory ownership. 2025-09-09media: vivid: fix disappearing <Vendor Command With ID> messagesHans Verkuil
The vivid driver supports the <Vendor Command With ID> message, but if the Vendor ID of the received message didn't match the Vendor ID of the CEC Adapter, then it ignores it (good) and returns 0 (bad). It should return -ENOMSG to indicate that other followers should be asked to handle it. Return code 0 means that the driver handled it, which is wrong in this case. As a result, userspace followers never get the chance to process such a message. Refactor the code a bit to have the function return -ENOMSG at the end, drop the default case, and ensure that the message handlers return 0. That way 0 is only returned if the message is actually handled in the vivid_received() function. 2025-08-13media: Replace file->private_data access with file_to_v4l2_fh()Laurent Pinchart
Accessing file->private_data manually to retrieve the v4l2_fh pointer is error-prone, as the field is a void * and will happily cast implicitly to any pointer type. Replace all remaining locations that read the v4l2_fh pointer directly from file->private_data with usage of the file_to_v4l2_fh() function. The change was generated manually. No functional change is intended, this only paves the way to remove direct accesses to file->private_data and make V4L2 drivers safer. Other accesses to the field will be addressed separately. The pixel_array control size was calculated incorrectly: the dimensions were swapped (dims[0] should be the height), and the values should be the width or height divided by PIXEL_ARRAY_DIV and rounded up.
