sparx5_set_rx_mode() runs with netif_addr_lock_bh held and iterates
dev->mc via __dev_mc_sync(), which per address calls sparx5_mc_sync() /
sparx5_mc_unsync() -> sparx5_mact_learn() / sparx5_mact_forget(). These
take sparx5->lock, a mutex, and then poll the MAC access command
register with readx_poll_timeout(). A mutex may block, which is not
allowed from atomic context.
Convert the driver to the new .ndo_set_rx_mode_async callback introduced
in commit 3554b4345d85 ("net: introduce ndo_set_rx_mode_async and
netdev_rx_mode_work"). The async callback is invoked from process
context, so the mutex and sleeping completion poll can remain.

sparx5_vcap_init() runs before sparx5_register_netdevs() in probe, and
its debugfs setup calls vcap_port_debugfs() for every port using
netdev_name(ndev) as the debugfs file name. At that point the netdevs
have only been allocated, not registered, so dev->name still holds the
"eth%d" template and netdev_name() returns "(unnamed net_device)".
Every port tries to create the same file under vcaps/, producing a
flood of warnings at boot:
debugfs: '(unnamed net_device)' already exists in 'vcaps'
debugfs: '(unnamed net_device)' already exists in 'vcaps'
...
Add vcap_port_debugfs_portno(), a variant of vcap_port_debugfs() that
takes the port's stable hardware port number and uses "p%u" as the
debugfs file name instead of netdev_name(ndev). This makes the file
name independent of registration order; the file still stores and
later dereferences the netdev itself, same as before. sparx5 already
reports the same "p%d" string via ndo_get_phys_port_name(), so the
debugfs name now matches that.
Only sparx5 (and lan969x, which shares this code) is switched to the
new function. lan966x keeps calling vcap_port_debugfs() unchanged, so
this fix does not rename any of its existing debugfs files.

Enable RMII interface in the lan743x driver for PHY and MAC
configuration.
- Select RMII interface in lan743x_phy_interface_select().
- Update phylink supported_interfaces and MAC capabilities.
- Enable RMII via RMII_CTL in lan743x_hardware_init().
- Define RMII_CTL register and enable bit in lan743x_main.h.
EEE is not supported with RMII on PCI11x1x: the hardware does not
implement LPI signaling over RMII. Clear RMII from lpi_interfaces to
prevent phylink from enabling EEE on this interface.

Some MAC-PHY devices need custom MDIO bus access functions to work
around hardware issues. Add the OA_TC6_BROKEN_PHY quirk flag so drivers
can opt in to skip oa_tc6's internal PHY init and manage the PHY
themselves. When the flag is set, oa_tc6 skips MDIO bus registration,
PHY discovery and PHY connection, leaving these to the driver.
Drivers that do not set the flag retain the existing behavior. Update
lan865x and the framework documentation accordingly.

On the TSN and RED variants of LAN969x and SparX-5i TAS (Time-Aware Shaper)
is present in the silicon.
Currently, the driver does not use configure it at all, which means that
the TAS_PROFILE_CONFIG.LINK_SPEED[1] value is left at the default of 3
which means that its configured for 1 Gbps.
So, running iperf between two 10G switch ports will result in only 940-ish
Mbps while we should be getting around 9.3 Gbps.
Correctly populating the TAS_PROFILE_CONFIG.LINK_SPEED[1] with the current
port speed fixes this issue and we achieve around 9.4 Gbps between two 10G
switch ports.
So, port the TAS port link speed setting from the vendor BSP 6.18 kernel[2]

The VCAP instances on a chip are not independent, yet they are locked
independently. On sparx5 and lan969x the IS0 and IS2 instances are
backed by the same Super VCAP hardware block and share its cache and
command registers: every access drives the shared VCAP_SUPER_CTRL
register and moves data through the shared cache registers.
Accessing one instance therefore races with accessing another. The
per-instance admin->lock cannot prevent this, as each instance takes a
different lock.
The locking issue is mostly disguised by the fact that the core usage of
the vcap api runs under rtnl. However, the full rule dump in debugfs
decodes rules straight from hardware (a READ command followed by a cache
read) and runs outside rtnl, so it races a concurrent tc-flower rule
write to another Super VCAP instance.
Besides corrupting the dump, the read repopulates the shared cache
between the writers cache fill and its write command, so the writer
commits the wrong data and corrupts the hardware entry.
Introduce vcap_lock() and vcap_unlock() helpers and route every rule
lock site in the VCAP API and its debugfs code through them. Replace the
per-instance admin->lock with a single mutex in struct vcap_control that
serializes access to all instances. The helpers reach it through a new
admin->vctrl back-pointer, and the clients initialise and destroy the
control lock instead of a per-instance one.
No path holds more than one instance lock, so collapsing them onto a
single mutex cannot self-deadlock.

lan743x_hardware_init() calls pci11x1x_strap_get_status() during the
PCI11x1x probe sequence. That helper acquires the Ethernet subsystem
hardware lock via lan743x_hs_syslock_acquire(), which relies on
adapter->eth_syslock_spinlock to serialize access.
The spinlock is currently initialized only after the strap status is
read. With CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK enabled, taking the zeroed initialized
spinlock can trip the spinlock debug check.
Fix by initializing adapter->eth_syslock_spinlock before reading the
strap status so the probe path never attempts to lock an uninitialized
spinlock.

lan966x_fdma_reload() backs up rx->page_pool and rx->fdma before
reallocating the RX resources for the new MTU. If the allocation fails,
the restore path puts these fields back before restarting RX.
However, the reload path also updates rx->page_order and rx->max_mtu
before calling lan966x_fdma_rx_alloc(). These fields are not restored on
failure, so RX can be restarted with the old pages, old FDMA state and
old page pool, but with the page geometry from the failed new MTU.
This can make the XDP path advertise a frame size derived from the new
page_order while the actual RX pages still come from the old allocation.
For example, after a failed reload to a jumbo MTU, xdp_init_buff() may be
called with a frame size larger than the restored RX pages.
lan966x_fdma_rx_alloc_page_pool() also registers the newly allocated page
pool with each port's XDP RXQ before fdma_alloc_coherent() is called. If
fdma_alloc_coherent() fails, the new page pool is destroyed, but the
rollback path does not restore the per-port XDP RXQ mem model
registration either.
Save and restore rx->page_order and rx->max_mtu, and restore the old page
pool registration for each port's XDP RXQ before RX is started again.
This keeps the restored RX state consistent after a failed reload.

sparx5_tc_flower_psfp_setup() allocates PSFP stream gate, flow meter and
stream filter resources before adding VCAP actions. If a later step
fails, the resources allocated earlier in the function are not unwound.
Add error paths to release the stream filter, flow meter and stream gate
when setup fails after they have been acquired.
Also make sparx5_psfp_fm_add() return the acquired flow-meter id before
the existing-flow-meter early return. When an existing flow meter is
reused, sparx5_psfp_fm_get() increments its pool reference count, but the
caller previously kept psfp_fmid as 0. If a later setup step failed, the
error path could try to delete flow-meter id 0 instead of the reused flow
meter, leaving the incremented reference behind.

VLAN-tagged interfaces on lan743x devices were previously unreachable via
SSH and failed to respond to large ping packets (e.g. "ping -s 1469" given
MTU=1500). In these scenarios, "ethtool -S" reports non-zero "RX Oversize
Frame Errors". According to Microchip AN2948, the MAC_RX FSE (VLAN field
size enforcement) bit determines whether frames with VLAN tags exceeding
the base MTU plus tag length are discarded.
The driver must set the MAC_RX.FSE bit before setting MAC_RX.RXEN to allow
VLAN-tagged frames up to the interface MTU, preventing them from being
treated as oversized. As a result, both the base and VLAN-tagged interfaces
can use the same MTU without receive errors.

This patch updates the lan743x driver to prevent the use of netdev-based
logging APIs (such as netdev_dbg) before the network device has been
successfully registered. Using netdev-based logging prior to registration
results in log messages referencing "(unnamed net_device) (uninitialized)",
which can be confusing and less informative.
The driver must use netif_msg_ APIs and device-based logging (e.g. dev_dbg)
until netdev registration is complete. This ensures log entries are
associated with the correct device context and improves log clarity. After
registration, netdev-based logging APIs can be used safely.

1. No need to an unlikely() because IS_ERR() already has an unlikely()

3. Use the returned error code directly instead of using groveling in

lan966x_probe_port() stores the newly allocated net_device in the
port before calling register_netdev(). If register_netdev() fails,
the probe error path calls lan966x_cleanup_ports(), which sees
port->dev and calls unregister_netdev() for a device that was never
registered.
Destroy the phylink instance created for this port and clear port->dev
before returning the registration error. The common cleanup path now skips
ports without port->dev before reaching the registered netdev cleanup, so
it only handles ports that reached the registered-netdev lifetime.
This also avoids treating an uninitialized FDMA netdev and the failed port
as a NULL == NULL match in the common cleanup path.

sparx5_port_init() only invokes sparx5_serdes_set() and the associated
shadow-device enable and low-speed device switch for SGMII and QSGMII.
On any port with a high-speed primary device (DEV5G/DEV10G/DEV25G)
configured for 1000BASE-X the serdes is therefore left uninitialized,
the DEV2G5 shadow is never enabled, and the port stays pointed at its
high-speed device rather than the DEV2G5. The PCS1G block looks
healthy in isolation, but no frames reach the link partner.
Add 1000BASE-X to the check so the same three steps run.

When lan966x_fdma_reload() fails to allocate new RX buffers, the restore
path restarts DMA using old descriptors whose pages were already freed
via lan966x_fdma_rx_free_pages(). Since page_pool_put_full_page() can
release pages back to the buddy allocator, the hardware may DMA into
memory now owned by other kernel subsystems.
Additionally, on the restore path, the newly created page pool (if
allocation partially succeeded) is overwritten without being destroyed,
leaking it.
Fix both issues by deferring the release of old pages until after the
new allocation succeeds. Save the old page array before the allocation
so old pages can be freed on the success path. On the failure path, the
old descriptors, pages and page pool are all still valid, making the
restore safe. Also ensure the restore path re-enables NAPI and wakes
the netdev, matching the success path.

'if NET_VENDOR_MICROCHIP' condition is effectively dead code.
I propose removing the second 'if NET_VENDOR_MICROCHIP' in
drivers/net/ethernet/microchip/fdma/Kconfig
This dead code was found by kconfirm, a static analysis tool for Kconfig.

The driver does not explicitly configure the MAC duplex mode when
bringing the link up. As a result, the MAC may retain a stale duplex
setting from a previous link state, leading to duplex mismatches with
the link partner and degraded network performance.
Update lan743x_phylink_mac_link_up() to set or clear the MAC_CR_DPX_
bit according to the negotiated duplex mode.
This ensures the MAC configuration is consistent with the phylink
resolved state.

A warm reset on boards using an EEPROM-only strap configuration (where
no MAC address is set in the image) can cause the driver to incorrectly
revert to RGMII mode. This occurs because the ENET_CONFIG_LOAD_STARTED
bit may not persist or behave as expected.
Update pci11x1x_strap_get_status() to use revision-specific validation:
- For PCI11x1x A0: Continue using the legacy check (config load started
or reset protection) to validate the SGMII strap.
- For PCI11x1x B0 and later: Use the newly available
STRAP_READ_USE_SGMII_EN_ bit in the upper strap register to validate
the lower SGMII_EN bit.
This ensures the SGMII interface is correctly identified even after a
warm reboot.

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

The max_adj field in ptp_clock_info tells userspace how much the PHC
clock frequency can be adjusted. ptp4l reads this and will never request
a correction larger than max_adj.
On both sparx5 and lan969x the clock offset may never converge because
the servo needs a frequency correction larger than the current max_adj
of 200000 (200 ppm) allows. The servo rails at the max and the offset
stays in the tens of microseconds.
The hardware has no inherent max adjustment limit; frequency correction
is done by writing a 64-bit clock period increment to CLK_PER_CFG, and
the register has plenty of range. The 200000 value was just an overly
conservative software limit. The max_adj is shared between sparx5 and
lan969x, and the increased value is safe for both.
Fix this by increasing max_adj to 10000000 (10000 ppm), giving the
servo sufficient headroom.

DWRR (Deficit Weighted Round Robin) scheduling distributes bandwidth
across traffic classes based on per-queue cost values, where lower cost
means higher bandwidth share.
The SPX5_DWRR_COST_MAX constant is 63 (6 bits) but the hardware
register field HSCH_DWRR_ENTRY_DWRR_COST is GENMASK(24, 20), only
5 bits wide (max 31). This causes sparx5_weight_to_hw_cost() to
compute cost values that silently overflow via FIELD_PREP, resulting
in incorrect scheduling weights.
Set SPX5_DWRR_COST_MAX to 31 to match the hardware register width.

To initialize the taprio block in lan966x, it is required to configure
the register REVISIT_DLY. The purpose of this register is to set the
delay before revisit the next gate and the value of this register depends
on the system clock. The problem is that the we calculated wrong the value
of the system clock period in picoseconds. The actual system clock is
~165.617754MHZ and this correspond to a period of 6038 pico seconds and
not 15125 as currently set.

In 2009, commit c82f63e411f1 ("PCI: check saved state before restore")
changed the behavior of pci_restore_state() such that it became necessary
to call pci_save_state() afterwards, lest recovery from subsequent PCI
errors fails.
The commit has just been reverted and so all the pci_save_state() after
pci_restore_state() calls that have accumulated in the tree are now
superfluous. Drop them.
Two drivers chose a different approach to achieve the same result:
drivers/scsi/ipr.c and drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/netdev.c set the
pci_dev's "state_saved" flag to true before calling pci_restore_state().
Drop this as well.
