This is another run of the Coccinelle script for converting kmalloc() family of allocations to kmalloc_obj() via the existing rules in scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci This catches both the set of kmalloc() uses added since the first kmalloc_obj() conversions in v7.0 and adds a large group missed in the first pass due to Coccinelle not interacting well with the cleanup.h scoped_...() family of macros[1]. I worked around this with spatch's "--macro-file" argument to a file with all the scoped_...() macros mapped to Coccinelle's YACFE_ITERATOR[2] as that was the closest viable control flow indicator I could find. Build tested allmodconfig on x86, arm64, arm, loongarch, mips, powerpc, riscv, and s390 with no new warnings. The Intel UFS 4.0 PCI variant (PCI ID 8086:D335) advertises MCQ support in its capability register. However, ufshcd_alloc_mcq() also requires an .op_runtime_config hook to locate the per-queue operation and runtime (OPR) register blocks, which was not provided by this variant operations table. As a result, MCQ initialization fails and ufshcd_add_scsi_host() prints "MCQ mode is disabled, err=%d\n" before falling back to legacy single-doorbell (SDB) mode. Add ufs_intel_mcq_config_resource() to initialize the MCQ configuration base and add ufs_intel_op_runtime_config() to set up the OPR register offsets and stride. Wire both hooks into the variant operations table so MCQ is enabled when supported by the hardware. Reliable HS-Gear5 operation on Intel UFS 4.0 controllers requires configuring PA_INITIAL_ADAPT before changing the power mode. Without this setting, the link fails to train reliably at Gear5. Add a pwr_change_notify() hook to configure the adaptation mode before the power mode transition. Enable this only for UFS 4.0 and later controllers by checking hba->ufs_version. Wire the hook into the existing Meteor Lake family variant operations table (ufs_intel_mtl_hba_vops) instead of introducing a separate table, since the Intel UFS 4.0 PCI variant (PCI ID 8086:D335) already uses this vops table and the hook is internally gated on UFS version >= 4.0. Use PA_INITIAL_ADAPT when the negotiated TX power mode is FAST_MODE or FASTAUTO_MODE. Otherwise, reset the adaptation mode to PA_NO_ADAPT, which is the default setting. The current devfreq downdifferential threshold of 5% causes overly aggressive frequency downscaling, leading to performance degradation sometimes during sequential read workloads. Update the UFS devfreq downdifferential threshold to 65. This widens the hysteresis window and prevents overly aggressive downscaling, ensuring that frequency is maintained for loads above 5% and scaling down occurs only when utilization falls below this level, while scale-up still triggers above the 70% threshold. controller v6.2+ The link startup mode (HS LSS - high-speed link startup, or LS LSS - low-speed link startup) is decided in the boot stage based on the bootconfig GPIO. This selection is carried forward through the secondary stage bootloaders and finally to HLOS via the spare configuration register (REG_UFS_DEBUG_SPARE_CFG). On Qualcomm UFS controller v6.2 and later, bit 31 in the spare configuration register indicates the high-speed link startup mode selection, as per the Hardware Programming Guide (HPG). The spare register value is read during host driver initialization but gets cleared after UFS reset. Preserve the spare register value during initialization and restore it during link startup to maintain the bootloader-configured link startup mode. 2026-07-16scsi: ufs: ufs-qcom: Restore TX Equalization settings on FOM failureCan Guo
ufs_qcom_get_rx_fom() applies temporary device TX Equalization values before forcing HS mode and running the EOM-based SW FOM scan. When one of these steps fails, the function can bypass the shared cleanup path and leave temporary TX Equalization settings programmed. Route those failures through the cleanup label so the original TX EQ settings are restored and link recovery runs before exit. This path also reuses ret for cleanup, so it may overwrite the original error. Keep that on purpose: if cleanup succeeds, the caller can proceed with the FOM result for the current iteration. Implement the get_hba_nortt callback to handle platform-specific RTT capability differences: - For legacy platforms and IP versions before MT6995 B0, the RTT capability from host controller register is problematic, so limit it to 2 (MTK_MAX_NUM_RTT_LEGACY). - For MT6995 B0 and later platforms, the issue is fixed and the value from host controller capability register can be used directly. Parse board-specific static TX Equalization settings from Device Tree for each HS gear and store them in hba->tx_eq_params. Parse txeq-preshoot-g[1-6] and txeq-deemphasis-g[1-6] as per-lane tuples: <Host_Lane0 Device_Lane0>, [<Host_Lane1 Device_Lane1>]. For HS-G6, parse optional tx-precode-enable-g6 using the same per-lane Host/Device tuple format. If provided, it must contain values for all active lanes, and each value must be 0 or 1. Introduce from_dt in struct ufshcd_tx_eq_params to track whether TX EQ values came from static Device Tree data. When adaptive TX Equalization is used, these static settings are not final: - If valid settings are retrieved from qTxEQGnSettings/wTxEQGnSettingsExt, those retrieved settings override static Device Tree settings. - If retrieval is not available/valid, TX EQTR runs and trained settings override static Device Tree settings. So static Device Tree settings are a fallback for cases where adaptive TX Equalization is not enabled or not used. Adaptive TX Equalization remains the primary path when enabled. No behavior changes for platforms that do not provide these properties. On platforms that support Auto Hibern8 (AH8), the UFS controller can autonomously de-assert clk_req signals to the Global Clock Controller when entering the Hibern8 state. This allows Global Clock Controller (GCC) to gate unused clocks, improving power efficiency. Enable the Clock Request feature by setting the UFS_HW_CLK_CTRL_EN bit in the UFS_AH8_CFG register, as recommended in the Hardware Programming Guidelines. The pci_device_id array uses a mixture of ways to initialize ufshcd_pci_tbl[]. List initializers are hard to read unless you memoized the order of the struct members. Use the PCI_VDEVICE for all entries and a named initializer for .driver_data. This allows to idiomatically assign the members without using zeros to fill the fields before .driver_data (either explicitly or hidding in PCI_VDEVICE()). There are no changes to the compiled result of the array; verified with builds for x86 and arm64. To achieve reliable operation at these higher speeds, UniPro V3.0 introduces TX Equalization and Pre-Coding mechanisms that are essential for signal integrity. This patch series implements TX Equalization support in the UFS core driver as specified in UFSHCI v5.0, along with the necessary vendor operations and a reference implementation for Qualcomm UFS host controllers. Background ========== TX Equalization is a signal conditioning technique that compensates for channel impairments at high data rates (HS-G4 through HS-G6). It works by adjusting two key parameters: - PreShoot: Pre-emphasis applied before the main signal transition - DeEmphasis: De-emphasis applied after the main signal transition UniPro V3.0 defines TX Equalization Training (EQTR) procedure to automatically discover optimal TX Equalization settings. The EQTR procedure: 1. Starts from the most reliable link state (HS-G1) 2. Iterates through all possible PreShoot and DeEmphasis combinations 3. Evaluates signal quality using Figure of Merit (FOM) measurements 4. Selects the best settings for both host and device TX lanes For HS-G6, Pre-Coding is also introduced to further improve signal quality. Pre-Coding must be enabled on both transmitter and receiver when the RX_FOM indicates it is required. Implementation Overview ======================= The implementation follows the UFSHCI v5.0 specification and consists of: Core Infrastructure (Patches 1-6): - New vops callback negotiate_pwr_mode() to allow vendors to negotiate power mode parameters before applying TX Equalization settings - Support for HS-G6 gear enumeration - Complete TX EQTR procedure implementation in ufs-txeq.c - Debugfs interface for TX Equalization parameter inspection and manual retraining - Module parameters for adaptive TX Equalization control Qualcomm Implementation (Patches 7-11): - PHY-specific configurations for TX EQTR procedure - Vendor-specific FOM measurement support - TX Equalization settings application - Enable TX Equalization for HW version 0x7 and onwards The implementation is designed to be vendor-agnostic, with platform- specific details handled through the vops callbacks. Most vendor specific implemenations of vops pwr_change_notify(PRE_CHANGE) are fulfilling two things at once: - Vendor specific target power mode negotiation - Vendor specific power mode change preparation When TX Equalization is added into consideration, before power mode change to a target power mode, TX Equalization Training (EQTR) needs be done for that target power mode. In addition, UFSHCI spec requires to start TX EQTR from HS-G1 (the most reliable High Speed Gear). Adding TX EQTR before pwr_change_notify(PRE_CHANGE) is not applicable because we don't know the negotiated power mode yet. Adding TX EQTR post pwr_change_notify(PRE_CHANGE) is inappropriate because pwr_change_notify(PRE_CHANGE) has finished preparation for a power mode change to negotiated power mode, yet we are changing power mode to HS-G1 for TX EQTR. Add a new vops negotiate_pwr_mode() so that vendor specific power mode negotiation can be fulfilled in its vendor specific implementations. Later on, TX EQTR can be added post vops negotiate_pwr_mode() and before vops pwr_change_notify(PRE_CHANGE). 2026-02-03scsi: ufs: mediatek: Fix page faults in ufs_mtk_clk_scale() trace eventKeita Morisaki
The ufs_mtk_clk_scale() trace event currently stores the address of the name string directly via __field(const char *, name). This pointer may become invalid after the module is unloaded, causing page faults when the trace buffer is subsequently accessed. This can occur because the MediaTek UFS driver can be configured as a loadable module (tristate in Kconfig), meaning the name string passed to the trace event may reside in module memory that becomes invalid after module unload. Fix this by using __string() and __assign_str() to copy the string contents into the ring buffer instead of storing the pointer. This ensures the trace data remains valid regardless of module state. This change increases the memory usage for each ftrace entry by a few bytes (clock names are typically 7-15 characters like "ufs_sel" or "ufs_sel_max_src") compared to storing an 8-byte pointer. 2025-10-29scsi: ufs: ufs-pci: Fix S0ix/S3 for Intel controllersAdrian Hunter
Intel platforms with UFS, can support Suspend-to-Idle (S0ix) and Suspend-to-RAM (S3). For S0ix the link state should be HIBERNATE. For S3, state is lost, so the link state must be OFF. Driver policy, expressed by spm_lvl, can be 3 (link HIBERNATE, device SLEEP) for S0ix but must be changed to 5 (link OFF, device POWEROFF) for S3. Fix support for S0ix/S3 by switching spm_lvl as needed. During suspend ->prepare(), if the suspend target state is not Suspend-to-Idle, ensure the spm_lvl is at least 5 to ensure that resume will be possible from deep sleep states. During suspend ->complete(), restore the spm_lvl to its original value that is suitable for S0ix. This fix is first needed in Intel Alder Lake based controllers. Add support for the UFS host controller on the AMD Versal Gen 2 SoC, built on the Synopsys DWC UFS architecture, using the UFSHCD DWC and UFSHCD platform driver. This controller requires specific configurations like M-PHY/RMMI/UniPro and vendor specific registers programming before doing the UIC_LINKSTARTUP.
