Extending a fuse file past a non-page-aligned EOF does not zero the tail of
the old last page. When that page is cached and has been mmap-dirtied beyond
the old EOF, the now in-bounds tail is served to later reads as stale data
rather than zeros, which violates POSIX file-extension semantics.
Some file systems get this zeroing automatically at writeback time
(block_write_full_folio() / iomap_writeback_handle_eof() zero the tail of the
folio straddling i_size). A non-writeback caching fuse file system uses neither
path, so it has to zero the tail itself from the size-extending paths, like
XFS (xfs_file_write_zero_eof()) and ext4 (ext4_block_zero_eof()) do.
Call truncate_pagecache_range() over the newly-exposed range up front from the
three paths that extend a file, before the new size is published:
- a buffered write whose position is past the old EOF (fuse_perform_write());
- a size-extending setattr/truncate (fuse_do_setattr());
- a size-extending fallocate (fuse_file_fallocate()).
This unmaps the stale mappings and zeroes the partial tail of the old EOF
folio, so a later read returns zeros. Truncating [old EOF, write start) before
a buffered write keeps the dropped range disjoint from the written data, so a
write that lands inside the old EOF folio is preserved.
writeback_cache connections are unaffected, as their writes go through
iomap_file_buffered_write(), which zeroes post-EOF folios. The bug is
observable on a non-writeback_cache server that returns FOPEN_KEEP_CACHE on
writable files (without FOPEN_DIRECT_IO), and is caught by the new
write_extend_eof fuse selftest.

fuse_do_setattr() takes filemap_invalidate_lock() for a DAX truncate
(fault_blocked = true) and releases it at the out:/error: labels. But
when a writeback flush is also needed, a write_inode_now() failure
returns directly and leaks the lock, so any later fault or truncate on
the file stalls on the stale rwsem.
For example, truncate(2) on a setuid file reaches fuse_do_setattr()
with both ATTR_SIZE and ATTR_MODE set:

Pull misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner:
"Bigger cleanups:
- The lockref dead-count handling is tidied up.
The open-coded check for a count below zero as the dead marker
relies on information the caller should not have.
- make put_mnt_ns() leave mounts connected. Destroying a mount
namespace disconnected its mounts from their mount points. So a
file descriptor still open on the parent of a mount point could be
used to peek under it.
Locked mounts were already kept connected to prevent exactly that.
But a mount is only locked when its tree is copied across a user
namespace boundary. So a mount namespace set up by a privileged
component had no locked mounts and its mounts were disconnected.
Passing UMOUNT_CONNECTED keeps every mount connected and prevents
that bug.
- vfs_prepare_mode() passes S_IFDIR for directories. I meant to fix
that ago but didn't get to it. So now someone finally did it.
This kills the exception where the mode could be 0 when a directory
was created whereas every other creation operation passed it
explicitly already.
- move long delayed work for ufs, jffs2, hfsplus, hfs and affs from
the per-cpu system_long_wq to the new unbound system_dfl_long_wq.
None of that work relies on per-cpu state and the work item is
enqueued with queue_delayed_work() whose timer is global anyway. So
it may as well benefit from scheduler task placement.
Smaller fixes and cleanups:
- unlock_buffer() and journal_end_buffer_io_sync() use
clear_and_wake_up_bit()
- the pipe page pools are unified into a single per-pipe pool and the
extra wake_up(rd_wait) is limited to EPOLLET consumers
- eventpoll now computes its timer slack lazily in ep_poll()
- shrink_dcache_for_umount() keeps making progress on busy roots
- excess xarray nodes are freed in clear_inode()
- romfs detects hard link cycles
- the user path of nested backing files is fixed
- pidfd holds exec_update_lock around the namespace ioctl
- non-memcg-aware nr_cached_objects is skipped during memcg slab

The only time that 'false' is passed as the 'excl' arg to the ->create
inode_operation is in lookup_open() when ->atomic_open is not provided
by the parent directory.
*all* directory inode_operations which do not have ->atomic_open
completely ignore the 'excl' arg.
Therefore we don't need the 'excl' arg. Those few ->create operations
which pay attention to the arg are only ever called with a value of
'true'.
We remove that arg and change all ->create operations to behave as those
thhe arg were 'true'.

There is a comment in vfs_prepare_mode() that says:
Note that it's currently valid for @type to be 0 if a directory is
created. Filesystems raise that flag individually and we need to check
whether each filesystem can deal with receiving S_IFDIR from the vfs
before we enforce a non-zero type.
It is safe to do this clean-up except that three filesystems (fuse,
cifs, and coda) forward the mkdir @mode unchanged to something outside
the kernel. Mask S_IFDIR back out in coda_mkdir(), fuse_mkdir() and
cifs_mkdir() so that what is sent outside the kernel is unchanged.
Their maintainers can drop the mask once they have confirmed it is safe.

When the contents of a directory is modified, some of its attributes may
also change, so they need to be invalidated. But this isn't the case
for every attribute. For instance, unlinking or creating a file doesn't
change the uid/gid of its parent directory.
This can cause unnecessary FUSE_GETATTRs to be sent to user-space. For
example, fuse_permission() checks if mode, uid, and gid are valid and
will issue a FUSE_GETATTR if they're not, which results in an extra
FUSE_GETATTR request for every FUSE_UNLINK when removing files in the
same directory.

In fuse_create_open(), err is initialized to -ENOMEM immediately before
the fuse_alloc_forget() NULL check. If forget allocation fails,
it branches to out_err with that value. If it succeeds, it falls through
without modifying err, so err is still -ENOMEM at the point where
fuse_file_alloc() is called. The second err = -ENOMEM before
fuse_file_alloc() therefore is redundant.

Revert the fuse part of commit c9ba789dad15 ("VFS: introduce
start_creating_noperm() and start_removing_noperm()").
Commit c9ba789dad15 ("VFS: introduce start_creating_noperm() and
start_removing_noperm()") caused a regression in FUSE_NOTIFY_INVAL_ENTRY,
which failed to invalidate negative dentries.
This manifests in the filesystem returning -ENOENT for operations on an
existing file.
Fixing it properly while still keeping the start_removing* infrastructure
would add much additional complexity.
Instead revert to the original simple implementation.
The start_removing* infrastructure is needed in VFS to abstract the
filesystem locking. However filesystem code can still safely use the raw
locking primitives without affacting other filesystems.
This is part two of the revert.

start_removing_noperm()") caused a regression in FUSE_NOTIFY_INVAL_ENTRY,
which failed to invalidate negative dentries.

fuse_dentry_revalidate() may be called with a dentry that didn't had
->d_time initialised. The issue was found with KMSAN, where lookup_open()

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Pull vfs lease updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains updates for lease support to require filesystems to
explicitly opt-in to lease support
Currently kernel_setlease() falls through to generic_setlease() when a
a filesystem does not define ->setlease(), silently granting lease
support to every filesystem regardless of whether it is prepared for
it.
This is a poor default: most filesystems never intended to support
leases, and the silent fallthrough makes it impossible to distinguish
"supports leases" from "never thought about it".
This inverts the default. It adds explicit
.setlease = generic_setlease;
assignments to every in-tree filesystem that should retain lease
support, then changes kernel_setlease() to return -EINVAL when
->setlease is NULL.
With the new default in place, simple_nosetlease() is redundant and
is removed along with all references to it"

d_dispose_if_unused() may find the dentry with a positive refcount, in
which case it won't be put on the dispose list even though it has already
timed out.
"Reinstall" the d_delete() callback, which was optimized out in
fuse_dentry_settime(). This will result in the dentry being evicted as
soon as the refcount hits zero.

In fuse_dentry_tree_work() just before d_dispose_if_unused() the dentry
could get evicted, resulting in UAF.
Move unlocking dentry_hash[i].lock to after the dispose. To do this,
fuse_dentry_tree_del_node() needs to be moved from fuse_dentry_prune() to
fuse_dentry_release() to prevent an ABBA deadlock.
The lock ordering becomes:
-> dentry_bucket.lock
-> dentry.d_lock

Setting ->setlease() to a NULL pointer now has the same effect as
setting it to simple_nosetlease(). Remove all of the setlease
file_operations that are set to simple_nosetlease, and the function
itself.

The recent conversion of fuse_reverse_inval_entry() to use
start_removing() was wrong.
As Val Packett points out the original code did not call ->lookup
while the new code does. This can lead to a deadlock.
Rather than using full_name_hash() and d_lookup() as the old code
did, we can use try_lookup_noperm() which combines these. Then
the result can be given to start_removing_dentry() to get the required
locks for removal. We then double check that the name hasn't
changed.
As 'dir' needs to be used several times now, we load the dput() until
the end, and initialise to NULL so dput() is always safe.

Pull directory delegations update from Christian Brauner:
"This contains the work for recall-only directory delegations for
knfsd.
Add support for simple, recallable-only directory delegations. This
was decided at the fall NFS Bakeathon where the NFS client and server
maintainers discussed how to merge directory delegation support.
The approach starts with recallable-only delegations for several reasons:
1. RFC8881 has gaps that are being addressed in RFC8881bis. In
particular, it requires directory position information for
CB_NOTIFY callbacks, which is difficult to implement properly
under Linux. The spec is being extended to allow that information
to be omitted.
2. Client-side support for CB_NOTIFY still lags. The client side
involves heuristics about when to request a delegation.
3. Early indication shows simple, recallable-only delegations can
help performance. Anna Schumaker mentioned seeing a multi-minute
speedup in xfstests runs with them enabled.
With these changes, userspace can also request a read lease on a
directory that will be recalled on conflicting accesses. This may be
useful for applications like Samba. Users can disable leases
altogether via the fs.leases-enable sysctl if needed.
VFS changes:
- Dedicated Type for Delegations
Introduce struct delegated_inode to track inodes that may have
delegations that need to be broken. This replaces the previous
approach of passing raw inode pointers through the delegation
breaking code paths, providing better type safety and clearer
semantics for the delegation machinery.
- Break parent directory delegations in open(..., O_CREAT) codepath
- Allow mkdir to wait for delegation break on parent
- Allow rmdir to wait for delegation break on parent
- Add try_break_deleg calls for parents to vfs_link(), vfs_rename(),

The fuse_ilookup() function only sets *fm on the success path so this
"if (fm) {" NULL check doesn't work. The "fm" pointer is either
uninitialized or valid. Check the "inode" pointer instead.
Also, while it's not necessary, it is cleaner to move the iput(inode)
under the NULL check as well.

xfs, fuse, ipc/mqueue need variants of start_creating or start_removing
which do not check permissions.
This patch adds _noperm versions of these functions.
Note that do_mq_open() was only calling mntget() so it could call
path_put() - it didn't really need an extra reference on the mnt.
Now it doesn't call mntget() and uses end_creating() which does
the dput() half of path_put().
Also mq_unlink() previously passed
d_inode(dentry->d_parent)
as the dir inode to vfs_unlink(). This is after locking
d_inode(mnt->mnt_root)
These two inodes are the same, but normally calls use the textual
parent.
So I've changes the vfs_unlink() call to be given d_inode(mnt->mnt_root).

By "length of a string" usually the number of non-null chars is
meant (i.e. strlen(str)). So the variable 'namelen' was confusingly
named, whereas 'namesize' refers more to what's being done in
'get_security_context'.

As pointed out in [1], strcpy() is deprecated in favor of strscpy().
Furthermore, the size of the buffer for the name to be copied is well known
at this point since we are going to move the pointer by that much on the
next line. Hence, it's safe to assume 'namelen' for the size of the string
to be copied.

With the infrastructure introduced to periodically invalidate expired
dentries, it is now possible to add an extra work queue to invalidate
dentries when an epoch is incremented. This work queue will only be
triggered when the 'inval_wq' parameter is set.

This patch adds the necessary infrastructure to keep track of all dentries
created for FUSE file systems. A set of rbtrees, protected by hashed
locks, will be used to keep all these dentries sorted by expiry time.
A new module parameter 'inval_wq' is also added. When set, it will start
a work queue which will periodically invalidate expired dentries. The
value of this new parameter is the period, in seconds, for this work
queue. Once this parameter is set, every new dentry will be added to one
of the rbtrees.
When the work queue is executed, it will check all the rbtrees and will
invalidate those dentries that have timed-out.
The work queue period can not be smaller than 5 seconds, but can be
disabled by setting 'inval_wq' to zero (which is the default).

When nfsd starts requesting directory delegations, setlease handlers may
see requests for leases on directories. Push the !S_ISREG check down
into the non-trivial setlease handlers, so we can selectively enable
them where they're supported.
FUSE is special: It's the only filesystem that supports atomic_open and
allows kernel-internal leases. atomic_open is issued when the VFS
doesn't know the state of the dentry being opened. If the file doesn't
exist, it may be created, in which case the dir lease should be broken.
The existing kernel-internal lease implementation has no provision for
this. Ensure that we don't allow directory leases by default going
forward by explicitly disabling them there.

Now that fuse is integrated with iomap for read/readahead, we can remove
the workaround that was added in commit bd24d2108e9c ("fuse: fix fuseblk
i_blkbits for iomap partial writes"), which was previously needed to
avoid a race condition where an iomap partial write may be overwritten
by a read if blocksize < PAGE_SIZE. Now that fuse does iomap
read/readahead, this is protected against since there is granular
uptodate tracking of blocks, which means this workaround can be removed.

On regular fuse filesystems, i_blkbits is set to PAGE_SHIFT which means
any iomap partial writes will mark the entire folio as uptodate. However
fuseblk filesystems work differently and allow the blocksize to be less
than the page size. As such, this may lead to data corruption if fuseblk
sets its blocksize to less than the page size, uses the writeback cache,
and does a partial write, then a read and the read happens before the
write has undergone writeback, since the folio will not be marked
uptodate from the partial write so the read will read in the entire
folio from disk, which will overwrite the partial write.
The long-term solution for this, which will also be needed for fuse to
enable large folios with the writeback cache on, is to have fuse also
use iomap for folio reads, but until that is done, the cleanest
workaround is to use the page size for fuseblk's internal kernel inode
blksize/blkbits values while maintaining current behavior for stat().
This was verified using ntfs-3g:
$ sudo mkfs.ntfs -f -c 512 /dev/vdd1
$ sudo ntfs-3g /dev/vdd1 ~/fuseblk
$ stat ~/fuseblk/hi.txt
IO Block: 512

As pointed out by Miklos[1], in the fuse_update_get_attr() path, the
attributes returned to stat may be cached values instead of fresh ones
fetched from the server. In the case where the server returned a
modified blocksize value, we need to cache it and reflect it back to
stat if values are not re-fetched since we now no longer directly change
inode->i_blkbits.

When mounting a user-space filesystem on multiple clients, after
concurrent ->setattr() calls from different node, stale inode
attributes may be cached in some node.
This is caused by fuse_setattr() racing with
fuse_reverse_inval_inode().
When filesystem server receives setattr request, the client node
with valid iattr cached will be required to update the fuse_inode's
attr_version and invalidate the cache by fuse_reverse_inval_inode(),
and at the next call to ->getattr() they will be fetched from user
space.
The race scenario is:
1. client-1 sends setattr (iattr-1) request to server
2. client-1 receives the reply from server
3. before client-1 updates iattr-1 to the cached attributes by
fuse_change_attributes_common(), server receives another setattr
(iattr-2) request from client-2
4. server requests client-1 to update the inode attr_version and
invalidate the cached iattr, and iattr-1 becomes staled
5. client-2 receives the reply from server, and caches iattr-2
6. continue with step 2, client-1 invokes
fuse_change_attributes_common(), and caches iattr-1
The issue has been observed from concurrent of chmod, chown, or
truncate, which all invoke ->setattr() call.
The solution is to use fuse_inode's attr_version to check whether
the attributes have been modified during the setattr request's
lifetime. If so, mark the attributes as invalid in the function
fuse_change_attributes_common().

Currently the calling conventions for ->d_automount() instances have
an odd wart - returned new mount to be attached is expected to have
refcount 2.
That kludge is intended to make sure that mark_mounts_for_expiry() called
before we get around to attaching that new mount to the tree won't decide
to take it out. finish_automount() drops the extra reference after it's
done with attaching mount to the tree - or drops the reference twice in
case of error. ->d_automount() instances have rather counterintuitive
boilerplate in them.
There's a much simpler approach: have mark_mounts_for_expiry() skip the
mounts that are yet to be mounted. And to hell with grabbing/dropping
those extra references. Makes for simpler correctness analysis, at that...
