iso_conn_ready() looks up the BIS listener socket with iso_get_sock(),
which takes a reference, and then, without re-checking its state,
creates a child socket from it:
parent = iso_get_sock(hdev, ...);
if (!parent)
return;
lock_sock(parent);
sk = iso_sock_alloc(sock_net(parent), NULL, BTPROTO_ISO, ...);
...
iso_chan_add(conn, sk, parent);
...
release_sock(parent);
sock_put(parent);
If the listener socket is closed concurrently, between iso_get_sock()
and lock_sock(), the reference taken by iso_get_sock() may be the last
one: the close path drops the link-list reference, and once
iso_conn_ready() drops its own reference at the end of the function the
socket is freed. The child socket, however, is already linked to the
freed parent, and a later disconnect of the child runs iso_chan_del()
-> bt_accept_unlink(), which dereferences the dangling parent pointer
into the freed accept queue (a use-after-free). The same dangling
pointer is also dereferenced through parent->***() in
iso_chan_del().
Fix it the same way the connected (non-BIS) path was fixed in commit
0d255e63fcf3 ("Bluetooth: ISO: hold sk properly in iso_conn_ready"):
after taking the socket lock, re-check that the parent is still a
listening, alive socket, and bail out otherwise.

iso_sock_getname() fills a struct sockaddr_iso in place and returns its
size without clearing it first, so bytes it does not write are copied to
user space from the kernel stack. The getsockname(2) and getpeername(2)
paths both run through do_getsockname(), which hands getname() an
uninitialized sockaddr_storage on the stack and copies back up to the
number of bytes getname() returns, so the driver has to initialize every
byte it accounts for.
Two ranges are left uninitialized:
- struct sockaddr_iso is 10 bytes but only 9 are written (family,
iso_bdaddr, iso_bdaddr_type), leaking the trailing pad byte on every
call.
- for a broadcast peer (BIS_LINK or PA_LINK) the returned length grows
by sizeof(struct sockaddr_iso_bc), but only bc_sid, bc_num_bis and
bc_bis are filled; bc_bdaddr and bc_bdaddr_type, the first 7 bytes of
that structure, are never written.
An unprivileged process can open a BTPROTO_ISO socket and reach the pad
leak with getsockname(); the broadcast leak needs an established BIS/PA
connection. l2cap and rfcomm already memset their sockaddr in getname
for the same reason; do the same here.

iso_sock_recvmsg() handles the deferred setup of a broadcast sink by
dropping the socket lock, calling iso_conn_big_sync() and taking the
lock again:
release_sock(sk);
iso_conn_big_sync(sk);
lock_sock(sk);
sk->sk_state = BT_LISTEN;
The state is written unconditionally, but iso_conn_big_sync() returns
void and has paths that do nothing at all: hci_get_route() may fail, and
after re-acquiring the socket lock the connection may already be gone,
in which case it bails out without ever issuing an LE BIG Create Sync.
While the lock is dropped the connection can be torn down, for example
when the controller reports HCI_EV_LE_PA_SYNC_LOST:
hci_le_pa_sync_lost_evt()
hci_disconn_cfm() -> iso_disconn_cfm() -> iso_conn_del()
iso_chan_del()
iso_pi(sk)->conn = NULL
sk->sk_state = BT_CLOSED
sock_set_flag(sk, SOCK_ZAPPED)
iso_conn_big_sync() then finds conn == NULL and returns, but the caller
still overwrites the BT_CLOSED that iso_chan_del() has just set. The
socket ends up marked BT_LISTEN with no connection, so recvmsg() reports
success for a setup that never happened and a later accept() waits for
BIS connections that can never arrive instead of failing.
A concurrent shutdown() reaches the same write by another route:
__iso_sock_close() takes the BT_CONNECT2 PA sync path to
iso_sock_disconn(), which sets BT_DISCONN but leaves conn and
conn->hcon in place, so iso_conn_big_sync() succeeds and BT_LISTEN is
written over BT_DISCONN. Both the BT_CONNECT2 and the BT_CONNECTED case
write the state the same way.
Let iso_conn_big_sync() report whether the BIG sync was started, and
only move the socket to BT_LISTEN when it was and when the state has not
changed while the lock was dropped, mirroring what the BT_CONNECT case
of the same switch already does with iso_connect_cis(). Both conditions
are needed, the error alone does not cover the shutdown() race.
This corrupts the socket state machine only, it is not a memory safety
issue. KASAN and lockdep stayed quiet in all of the runs below.
Reproduced with an emulated controller over /dev/vhci on a KASAN +
PROVE_LOCKING kernel. A PA sync broadcast sink socket is driven to
BT_CONNECT2 and recvmsg() on it is raced against teardown, with a debug
delay inside the lock-dropped section to widen the window:
- HCI_EV_LE_PA_SYNC_LOST injected: 64 of 64 rounds left the socket in
BT_LISTEN with the connection gone, recvmsg() returned 0 and accept()
on that fd returned EAGAIN, which iso_sock_accept() can only do while
the socket is BT_LISTEN. With this patch, 0 of 64, recvmsg() returns
an error and accept() returns EBADFD.
- shutdown() instead of a controller event: 24 of 32 rounds wedged in
BT_LISTEN, 0 of 32 with this patch. With only the error check in
place and a short window, one round still wedged while recvmsg()
returned 0, which is the case the state re-check covers.
An unraced control round behaves the same before and after: recvmsg()
returns 0, the socket reaches BT_LISTEN and an LE BIG Create Sync is
issued.

hci_conn::iso_data is accessed and modified without lock or RCU.
This leads to a race
[Task hdev->workqueue] [Task 2]
iso_recv iso_conn_put(conn)
conn = LOAD hcon->iso_data iso_conn_free(conn)
iso_conn_hold_unless_zero(conn) hcon->iso_data = NULL
kfree(conn)
kref_get_unless_zero(&conn->ref) /* UAF */
and also to races in iso_conn_add() vs. iso_conn_free().
Fix by adding spinlock hci_conn::proto_lock and using it to guard
hci_conn::iso_data.

iso_conn_del() and iso_chan_del() have a race that results to double-put
of iso_conn:
[Task hdev->workqueue] [Task 2]
iso_conn_del iso_chan_del
iso_conn_hold_unless_zero iso_conn_lock
iso_conn_lock conn->sk = NULL
iso_conn_unlock
sk = iso_sock_hold(conn) <---------´
if (!sk) iso_conn_put iso_conn_put
iso_conn_put /* UAF */
The extra put for !sk in iso_conn_del() is currently required since
failing iso_chan_add() may leave iso_conn not associated with any sk.
Fix by having iso_pi(sk)->conn own refcount when non-NULL, so
iso_conn_del does not need to put it. Adjust the iso_conn_add()
refcounting so that conn is put if it does not get associated with an
sk.

After iso_conn_del(), ISO sockets should not dereference the hcon any
more. Currently, clearing iso_conn::hcon relies on iso_conn_del()
releasing the last reference to the iso_conn.
Simplify this by explicitly clearing conn->hcon in iso_conn_del(), to
avoid more complex reasoning on races about who holds the last
reference.

iso_sock_timeout() takes lock_sock, so sync disabling the timer while
holding that lock may deadlock.
iso_sock_timeout() may also run concurrently with iso_conn_del(), which
leads to UAF
[Task 1] [Task hdev->workqueue]
iso_sock_timeout iso_conn_del
iso_conn_hold_unless_zero iso_chan_del
`------------> iso_conn_put
caller frees hcon
iso_conn_put
iso_conn_free
conn->hcon->iso_data = NULL; /* UAF */
Fix the deadlock by removing the disable from the lock_sock sections.
Move the timer from iso_conn to iso_pinfo to decouple it from iso_conn
which may need to be freed in lock_sock section. Convert some of the
clear_timer to disable_timer.

iso_sock_kill() tests !sock_flag(sk, SOCK_ZAPPED) || sk->sk_socket ||
sock_flag(sk, SOCK_DEAD) for early return, but this is always true since
sock_orphan(sk) sets SOCK_DEAD, so the sk reference released by socket
always leaks, iso_sock_destruct is never called.
The socket reference also leaks when __iso_sock_close() does not set
SOCK_ZAPPED, since iso_conn_del() does not call iso_sock_kill() after
zapping.
Fix by replacing SOCK_DEAD by BT_SK_KILLED flag that is not used for
something else, and lock_sock to ensure iso_sock_kill() puts sk only
after socket release only once. Release and iso_conn_del may run
concurrently. Call iso_sock_kill() from iso_conn_del() to clean sk up
after zapping.
Remove call to iso_sock_kill() from iso_sock_close(), as it's generally
no-op there.

sk deref in iso_conn_ready must be done either under conn->lock, or
holding a refcount, to avoid concurrent close. conn->sk is currently
accessed without either:
[Task 1] [Task 2]
iso_sock_release
iso_conn_ready
sk = conn->sk
lock_sock(sk)
conn->sk = NULL
lock_sock(sk)
release_sock(sk)

Commit d57e506f6a1e ("Bluetooth: ISO: clear iso_data always when detaching conn from hcon")
merged a version of the UAF fix that breaks releasing connected
ISO sockets. Since hci_conn::iso_data is set to NULL, iso_chan_del() won't
be called when the hci_conn disconnects, and the ISO socket does not emit
POLLHUP correctly.
Fix by retaining full hci_conn <-> iso_conn association while in
BT_DISCONNECT state, so that local disconnect via shutdown() follows
similar ISO socket code path as remote disconnect. Use a separate flag
to track whether hci_conn_drop() is needed, instead of setting
iso_conn::hcon = NULL
In iso_sock_ready(), disallow disconnecting socket going BT_CONNECTED,
in case hcon connects while its drop is pending.

Core specification (Part C vol 4 sec 5.4.5) does not exclude empty
ISO_CONT, ISO_END packets. We currently reject them if they are last.
If controller sends malformed sequence
ISO_START -> rx_len = 4, ISO_CONT skb->len 4, ISO_START
that ends payload in ISO_CONT, we leak conn->rx_skb. If controller sends
too long ISO_END, we panic on skb_put. If controller sends too short
ISO_END we accept it.
Fix by marking unfinished ISO_START via conn->rx_skb != NULL. Check
skb->len properly before skb_put. Combine the ISO_CONT/END code paths
as they require the same initial checks. Reject too short ISO_END
packets.

iso_conn_big_sync() drops the socket lock to call hci_get_route() and
then re-acquires it, but dereferences iso_pi(sk)->conn->hcon afterwards
without re-checking that conn is still valid.
While the lock is dropped, the connection can be torn down under the
same socket lock: iso_disconn_cfm() -> iso_conn_del() -> iso_chan_del()
sets iso_pi(sk)->conn to NULL (and the broadcast teardown path can also
clear conn->hcon on its own). When iso_conn_big_sync() re-acquires the
lock and reads conn->hcon, conn may be NULL, causing a NULL pointer
dereference (hcon is the first member of struct iso_conn).
This path is reached from iso_sock_recvmsg() for a PA-sync broadcast
sink socket (BT_SK_DEFER_SETUP | BT_SK_PA_SYNC), so the dropped-lock
window can race with connection teardown driven by controller events.
Re-validate iso_pi(sk)->conn and its hcon after re-acquiring the socket
lock and bail out if the connection went away, as already done in the
sibling iso_sock_rebind_bc().

In iso_sock_rebind_bc(), the bis pointer is cached, then the socket lock is

iso_sock_close() calls iso_sock_clear_timer() before acquiring
lock_sock(sk).
iso_sock_clear_timer() reads iso_pi(sk)->conn twice without the
socket lock held:
if (!iso_pi(sk)->conn)
return;
cancel_delayed_work(&iso_pi(sk)->conn->timeout_work);
Concurrently, iso_conn_del() executes under lock_sock(sk) and calls
iso_chan_del(), which sets iso_pi(sk)->conn to NULL and may result in
the final reference to the connection being dropped:
CPU0 CPU1
---- ----
iso_sock_clear_timer()
if (conn != NULL) ... lock_sock(sk)
iso_chan_del()
iso_pi(sk)->conn = NULL
cancel_delayed_work(conn) /* NULL deref or UAF */
iso_pi(sk)->conn is not stable across the unlock window, causing a
NULL pointer dereference or use-after-free.

inside lock_sock()/release_sock(), matching the pattern used in

iso_recv_frame reads conn->sk under iso_conn_lock but releases the lock
before using sk, with no reference held. A concurrent iso_sock_kill()
can free sk in that window, causing use-after-free on sk->sk_state and

refcount before the lock drops. Add a drop_put label so sock_put() is
called on all exit paths where the hold succeeded.

bt_accept_dequeue() unlinks a not-yet-accepted child from the parent
accept queue and release_sock()s it before returning, so the returned
sk has no caller reference and is unlocked.
l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen() walks these children on listening-socket
close. A concurrent HCI disconnect drives hci_rx_work ->
l2cap_conn_del() which runs l2cap_chan_del() + l2cap_sock_kill() and
frees the child sk and its l2cap_chan; cleanup_listen() then uses both:
BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in l2cap_sock_kill
l2cap_sock_kill / l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen / __x64_sys_close
Freed by: l2cap_conn_del -> l2cap_sock_close_cb -> l2cap_sock_kill
This is distinct from the two fixes already in this area: commit
e83f5e24da741 ("Bluetooth: serialize accept_q access") serialises the
accept_q list/poll and takes temporary refs inside bt_accept_dequeue(),
and CVE-2025-39860 serialises the userspace close()/accept() race by
calling cleanup_listen() under lock_sock() in l2cap_sock_release().
Neither covers l2cap_conn_del() running from hci_rx_work, so this UAF
still reproduces on current bluetooth/master.
Take the reference at the source: bt_accept_dequeue() does sock_hold()
while sk is still locked, before release_sock(); callers sock_put().
cleanup_listen() pins the chan with l2cap_chan_hold_unless_zero() under
a brief child sk lock (serialising vs l2cap_sock_teardown_cb()), drops
it before l2cap_chan_lock(), and skips a duplicate l2cap_sock_kill() on
SOCK_DEAD. conn->lock is not taken here: cleanup_listen() runs under
the parent sk lock and that would invert
conn->lock -> chan->lock -> sk_lock (lockdep).
KASAN/SMP: an unprivileged listen/close vs HCI-disconnect race produced
12 use-after-free reports per run before this change; 0, and no lockdep
report, over 1600+ raced iterations after it on bluetooth/master.

ISO data PDUs carry a packet-boundary flag indicating START, CONT, END
or SINGLE. The ISO_CONT branch of iso_recv() guards against a missing
ISO_START by checking conn->rx_len before touching conn->rx_skb, but
ISO_END does not.
If a peer sends an ISO_END as the first packet on a fresh ISO
connection, conn->rx_skb is still NULL and conn->rx_len is zero, so
skb_put(conn->rx_skb, ...) dereferences NULL and oopses. For BIS,
where receivers sync to a broadcaster without pairing, any broadcaster
on the air can trigger this.
Mirror the ISO_CONT check at the top of ISO_END so a stray end fragment
is logged and dropped instead of crashing the host.

Several iso_pi(sk) fields (qos, qos_user_set, bc_sid, base, base_len,

PA_SYNC_ESTABLISHED / PAST_RECEIVED / BIG_INFO_ADV_REPORT /

&iso_pi(sk)->qos together with sync_handle / bc_num_bis / bc_bis
to hci_conn_big_create_sync() while setsockopt may be mutating
them.
Acquire lock_sock around the affected accesses in both paths.
The locking order hci_dev_lock -> lock_sock matches the existing
iso_conn_big_sync() precedent, whose comment documents the same
requirement for hci_conn_big_create_sync(). The HCI connect/bind
helpers do not wait for command completion -- they enqueue work via
hci_cmd_sync_queue{,_once}() / hci_le_create_cis_pending() and
return -- so the added hold time is comparable to iso_conn_big_sync().

iso_sock_connect() copies the destination address into
iso_pi(sk)->dst under lock_sock, then releases the lock and reads
it back with bacmp() to decide between the CIS and BIS connect
paths:
lock_sock(sk);
bacpy(&iso_pi(sk)->dst, &sa->iso_bdaddr);
iso_pi(sk)->dst_type = sa->iso_bdaddr_type;
release_sock(sk);
if (bacmp(&iso_pi(sk)->dst, BDADDR_ANY)) // <- no lock held
This read after release_sock() races with any concurrent write to
iso_pi(sk)->dst on the same socket.
Fix by reading the destination address directly from the local
sockaddr argument (sa->iso_bdaddr) instead of iso_pi(sk)->dst.
Since sa is a function-local argument, reading it requires no
locking and avoids the race.
This patch addresses only the bacmp() race in iso_sock_connect();
other unprotected iso_pi(sk) accesses are fixed separately in the
next patch.

When TX timestamping is enabled via SO_TIMESTAMPING, SKBs may be queued
into sk_error_queue and will stay there until consumed. If userspace never
gets to read the timestamps, or if the controller is removed unexpectedly,
these SKBs will leak.
Fix by adding skb_queue_purge() calls for sk_error_queue in affected
bluetooth destructors. RFCOMM does not currently use sk_error_queue.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

This renames the PHY fields in bt_iso_io_qos to PHYs (plural) since it
represents a bitfield where multiple PHYs can be set and make the same
change also to HCI_OP_LE_SET_CIG_PARAMS since both c_phy and p_phy
fields are bitfields.
This also fixes the assumption that hci_evt_le_cis_established PHYs
fields are compatible with bt_iso_io_qos, they are not, the fields in
hci_evt_le_cis_established represent just a single PHY value so they
need to be converted to bitfield when set in bt_iso_io_qos.

The hdev lock/lookup/unlock/use pattern in the packet RX path doesn't
ensure hci_conn* is not concurrently modified/deleted. This locking
appears to be leftover from before conn_hash started using RCU
commit bf4c63252490b ("Bluetooth: convert conn hash to RCU")
and not clear if it had purpose since then.
Currently, there are code paths that delete hci_conn* from elsewhere
than the ordered hdev->workqueue where the RX work runs in. E.g.
commit 5af1f84ed13a ("Bluetooth: hci_sync: Fix UAF on hci_abort_conn_sync")
introduced some of these, and there probably were a few others before
it. It's better to do the locking so that even if these run
concurrently no UAF is possible.
Move the lookup of hci_conn and associated socket-specific conn to
protocol recv handlers, and do them within a single critical section
to cover hci_conn* usage and lookup.
syzkaller has reported a crash that appears to be this issue:
[Task hdev->workqueue] [Task 2]
hci_disconnect_all_sync
l2cap_recv_acldata(hcon)
hci_conn_get(hcon)
hci_abort_conn_sync(hcon)
hci_dev_lock
hci_dev_lock
hci_conn_del(hcon)
v-------------------------------- hci_dev_unlock
hci_conn_put(hcon)
conn = hcon->l2cap_data (UAF)
