A netadmin in a user+net namespace can create many IPv4 and IPv6
multicast routing tables with MRT_TABLE and MRT6_TABLE. Each unseen
id allocates an mr_table via the shared mr_table_alloc(), links it
into the per-net list, and leaves it until netns teardown. Those
objects were not charged to memcg, so the host unreclaimable slab
grows with the table count.
Account mr_table allocations with GFP_KERNEL_ACCOUNT and mark the
IPv4/IPv6 MFC caches SLAB_ACCOUNT. This matches the established
handling of IP addresses, routes and alternate interface names.
Unresolved MFC entries are still allocated from softIRQ with
GFP_ATOMIC and are not charged. They expire after 10 seconds and are
bounded by the socket receive queue; see commit 0079ad8e8dc3
("ipmr: remove hard code cache_resolve_queue_len limit").

IPv6 input attaches a non-refcounted (NOREF) dst to skbs under RCU.
When an ingress multicast packet misses MFC lookup,
ip6mr_cache_unresolved() places the skb onto the unresolved queue,
escaping the receive-side RCU grace period.
If the underlying route is deleted and freed, and the MFC queue is later
resolved with a wrong parent interface, ip6_mr_forward() invokes
ip6mr_cache_report(..., MRT6MSG_WRONGMIF), which executes
dst_clone(skb_dst(pkt)) on the freed dst entry, triggering a slab
use-after-free.
Report packets queued to mroute6_sk (a raw socket) and netlink
notifications do not require an attached dst entry.
Fix this by:
1. Removing dst_clone() in ip6mr_cache_report() and ensuring report skbs
do not hold a dst.
2. Dropping skb_dst before queuing unresolved skbs in
ip6mr_cache_unresolved(), matching the fact that multicast
forwarding resolves outgoing routes anew via ip6_route_output().

ip6mr does not have rtnetlink interface for MFC unlike ipmr,
which uses dev_get_by_index_rcu() to set struct mfcctl.mfcc_parent.
ip6mr_mfc_add() and ip6mr_mfc_delete() are called under RTNL
from ip6_mroute_setsockopt() only.
There are no RTNL dependant, but ip6_mroute_setsockopt() reuses
RTNL just for mrt->mfc_hash and mrt->mfc_cache_list.
Let's replace RTNL with a new per-netns mutex.
Later, ip6mr_notifier_ops and ipmr_seq will be moved under
CONFIG_IPV6_MROUTE.

When ip6mr_free_table() is called from ip6mr_rules_init() or
ip6mr_net_init(), the netns is not yet published.
Thus, no device should have been registered, and
mroute_clean_tables() will not call mif6_delete(), so
unregister_netdevice_many() is unnecessary.
unregister_netdevice_many() does nothing if the list is empty,
but it requires RTNL due to the unconditional ASSERT_RTNL()
at the entry of unregister_netdevice_many_notify().
Let's remove unnecessary RTNL and ASSERT_RTNL() and instead
add WARN_ON_ONCE() in ip6mr_free_table().
Note that we use a local list for the new WARN_ON_ONCE() because
dev_kill_list passed from ip6mr_rules_exit_rtnl() may have some
devices when other ops->init() fails after ipmr durnig setup_net().

ip6mr_net_ops uses ->exit_batch() to acquire RTNL only once
for dying network namespaces.
ip6mr does not depend on the ordering of ->exit_rtnl() and
->exit_batch() of other pernet_operations (unlike fib_net_ops).
Once ip6mr_free_table() is called and all devices are
queued for destruction in ->exit_rtnl(), later during
NETDEV_UNREGISTER, ip6mr_device_event() will not see anything
in vif table and just do nothing.
Let's convert ip6mr_net_exit_batch() to ->exit_rtnl().
We will remove RTNL and unregister_netdevice_many() in
ip6mr_rules_init().

Since default_device_exit_batch() is called after ->exit_rtnl(),
idev->mc_ifc_work could finally call mroute6_is_socket() under RCU
while ->exit_rtnl() is running. [0]
With CONFIG_IPV6_MROUTE_MULTIPLE_TABLES=n, ip6mr_fib_lookup() does
not check if net->ipv6.mrt6 is NULL. If ip6mr_net_exit_batch()
set net->ipv6.mrt6 to NULL and freed it, the mrt->mroute_sk access
could result in null-ptr-deref or use-after-free.
Let's prepare for that situation by applying RCU rule to ip6mr
table similarly.
!check_net(net) is added in ip6mr_cache_unresolved() and
mroute_clean_tables() to synchronise the two by mfc_unres_lock
so that ip6mr_cache_unresolved() will not queue skb after
mroute_clean_tables() purged &mrt->mfc_unres_queue.
rcu_read_lock() in reg_vif_xmit() is moved up to cover
ip6mr_fib_lookup() as with ipmr.

Commit 22e36ea9f5d7 ("inet: allow ip_valid_fib_dump_req() to
be called with RTNL or RCU") introduced the rtnl_held field in
struct fib_dump_filter to switch __dev_get_by_index() and
dev_get_by_index_rcu() depending on the caller's context.
This field served as an interim measure while we were incrementally
converting all callers of ip_valid_fib_dump_req() to RCU.
Now that all users (IPv4, IPv6, ipmr, ip6mr, and MPLS) have
been converted to RCU, the field is no longer necessary.
Let's remove it.

ip6mr_rtm_dumproute() calls mr_table_dump() or mr_rtm_dumproute(),
and mr_rtm_dumproute() finally calls mr_table_dump().
mr_table_dump() calls the passed function, _ip6mr_fill_mroute().
_ip6mr_fill_mroute() is a wrapper for ip6mr_fill_mroute() to cast
struct mr_mfc * to struct mfc6_cache *.
ip6mr_fill_mroute() can already be called safely under RCU.
Let's convert ip6mr_rtm_dumproute() to RCU.

fib_dump_filter, and the next patch will remove it.

ip6mr_rtm_getroute() calls __ip6mr_get_table(), ip6mr_cache_find(),
and ip6mr_fill_mroute().
Once created, struct mr_table is not freed until netns dismantle,
so it's safe under RCU.
ip6mr_cache_find() iterates mrt->mfc_hash with rhl_for_each_entry_rcu().
struct mr_mfc is freed with call_rcu(), so this is also safe under
RCU.
ip6mr_fill_mroute() calls mr_fill_mroute(), which properly uses
RCU helpers.
Let's call them under RCU and register ip6mr_rtm_getroute() with
RTNL_FLAG_DOIT_UNLOCKED.

mr6_msgsize() calculates skb size needed for ip6mr_fill_mroute().
The size differs based on mrt->maxvif.
We will drop RTNL for ip6mr_rtm_getroute() and mrt->maxvif may
change under RCU.
To avoid -EMSGSIZE, let's calculate the size with the maximum
value of mrt->maxvif, MAXMIFS.
struct rtnexthop is 8 bytes and MAXMIFS is 32, so the maximum delta
is 256 bytes, which is small enough.

These fields in struct mr_table are updated in ip6_mroute_setsockopt()
under RTNL:
* mroute_do_pim
* mroute_do_assert (MRT6_PIM is under RTNL while MRT6_ASSERT is lockless)
* mroute_do_wrvifwhole
However, ip6_mroute_getsockopt() does not hold RTNL and read the first
two fields locklessly, and ip6_mr_forward() reads all the three under
RCU.
Let's use WRITE_ONCE() and READ_ONCE() for them.

We will no longer hold RTNL for ipmr_mfc_add() and ipmr_mfc_delete().
MFC entry can be loosely connected with VIF by its index for
mrt->vif_table[] (stored in mfc_parent), but the two tables are
not synchronised. i.e. Even if VIF 1 is removed, MFC for VIF 1
is not automatically removed.
The only field that the MFC/VIF interfaces share is
net->ipv[46].ipmr_seq, which is protected by RTNL.
Adding a new mutex for both just to protect a single field is overkill.
Let's convert the field to atomic_t.

Multicast routing is today handled in the input path. Locally generated MC
packets don't hit the IPMR code today. Thus if a VXLAN remote address is
multicast, the driver needs to set an OIF during route lookup. Thus MC
routing configuration needs to be kept in sync with the VXLAN FDB and MDB.
Ideally, the VXLAN packets would be routed by the MC routing code instead.
To that end, this patch adds support to route locally generated multicast
packets. The newly-added routines do largely what ip6_mr_input() and
ip6_mr_forward() do: make an MR cache lookup to find where to send the
packets, and use ip6_output() to send each of them. When no cache entry is
found, the packet is punted to the daemon for resolution.
Similarly to the IPv4 case in a previous patch, the new logic is contingent
on a newly-added IP6CB flag being set.

Address the issue consolidating the relevant sanity check in a single

The root cause is a network namespace creation failing after successful
initialization of the ipmr subsystem. Such a case is not currently
matched by the ipmr_can_free_table() helper.
New namespaces are zeroed on allocation and inserted into net ns list
only after successful creation; when deleting an ipmr table, the list
next pointer can be NULL only on netns initialization failure.
Update the ipmr_can_free_table() checks leveraging such condition.

Several places call ip6mr_get_table() with no RCU nor RTNL lock.
Add RCU protection inside such helper and provide a lockless variant
for the few callers that already acquired the relevant lock.
Note that some users additionally reference the table outside the RCU
lock. That is actually safe as the table deletion can happen only
after all table accesses are completed.

The multicast route tables lifecycle, for both ipv4 and ipv6, is
protected by RCU using the RTNL lock for write access. In many
places a table pointer escapes the RCU (or RTNL) protected critical
section, but such scenarios are actually safe because tables are
deleted only at namespace cleanup time or just after allocation, in
case of default rule creation failure.
Tables freed at namespace cleanup time are assured to be alive for the
whole netns lifetime; tables freed just after creation time are never
exposed to other possible users.
Ensure that the free conditions are respected in ip{,6}mr_free_table, to
document the locking schema and to prevent future possible introduction
of 'table del' operation from breaking it.

commit edf391ff1723 ("snmp: add missing counters for RFC 4293") had
already added OutOctets for RFC 4293. In commit 2d8dbb04c63e ("snmp: fix
OutOctets counter to include forwarded datagrams"), OutOctets was
counted again, but not removed from ip_output().
According to RFC 4293 "3.2.3. IP Statistics Tables",
ipipIfStatsOutTransmits is not equal to ipIfStatsOutForwDatagrams. So
"IPSTATS_MIB_OUTOCTETS must be incremented when incrementing" is not
accurate. And IPSTATS_MIB_OUTOCTETS should be counted after fragment.
This patch reverts commit 2d8dbb04c63e ("snmp: fix OutOctets counter to

ip_finish_output2 for ipv4.

Most of the ioctls to net protocols operates directly on userspace

functions without passing userspace buffers.
Change the "struct proto" ioctls to avoid touching userspace memory and
operate on kernel buffers, i.e., all protocol's ioctl callbacks is
adapted to operate on a kernel memory other than on userspace (so, no
more {put,get}_user() and friends being called in the ioctl callback).
This changes the "struct proto" ioctl format in the following way:
int (*ioctl)(struct sock *sk, int cmd,
- unsigned long arg);
+ int *karg);
(Important to say that this patch does not touch the "struct proto_ops"
protocols)
So, the "karg" argument, which is passed to the ioctl callback, is a
pointer allocated to kernel space memory (inside a function wrapper).
This buffer (karg) may contain input argument (copied from userspace in
a prep function) and it might return a value/buffer, which is copied
back to userspace if necessary. There is not one-size-fits-all format
(that is I am using 'may' above), but basically, there are three type of
ioctls:
1) Do not read from userspace, returns a result to userspace
2) Read an input parameter from userspace, and does not return anything
to userspace
3) Read an input from userspace, and return a buffer to userspace.
The default case (1) (where no input parameter is given, and an "int" is
returned to userspace) encompasses more than 90% of the cases, but there
are two other exceptions. Here is a list of exceptions:
* Protocol RAW:
* cmd = SIOCGETVIFCNT:
* input and output = struct sioc_vif_req
* cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT
* input and output = struct sioc_sg_req
* Explanation: for the SIOCGETVIFCNT case, userspace passes the input
argument, which is struct sioc_vif_req. Then the callback populates
the struct, which is copied back to userspace.
* Protocol RAW6:
* cmd = SIOCGETMIFCNT_IN6
* input and output = struct sioc_mif_req6
* cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT_IN6
* input and output = struct sioc_sg_req6
* Protocol PHONET:
* cmd == SIOCPNADDRESOURCE | SIOCPNDELRESOURCE
* input int (4 bytes)
* Nothing is copied back to userspace.
For the exception cases, functions sock_sk_ioctl_inout() will
copy the userspace input, and copy it back to kernel space.
The wrapper that prepare the buffer and put the buffer back to user is
sk_ioctl(), so, instead of calling sk->sk_prot->ioctl(), the callee now
calls sk_ioctl(), which will handle all cases.

Due to several bugs caused by timers being re-armed after they are
shutdown and just before they are freed, a new state of timers was added
called "shutdown". After a timer is set to this state, then it can no
longer be re-armed.
The following script was run to find all the trivial locations where
del_timer() or del_timer_sync() is called in the same function that the
object holding the timer is freed. It also ignores any locations where
the timer->function is modified between the del_timer*() and the free(),
as that is not considered a "trivial" case.
This was created by using a coccinelle script and the following
commands:
$ cat timer.cocci
@@
expression ptr, slab;
identifier timer, rfield;
@@
(
- del_timer(&ptr->timer);
+ timer_shutdown(&ptr->timer);
|
- del_timer_sync(&ptr->timer);
+ timer_shutdown_sync(&ptr->timer);
)
... when strict
when != ptr->timer
(
kfree_rcu(ptr, rfield);
|
kmem_cache_free(slab, ptr);
|
kfree(ptr);
)
$ spatch timer.cocci . > /tmp/t.patch
