10 daysmonitor: move HMP-specific to monitor-hmp-internal.hMarc-André Lureau

10 daysmonitor: tighten monitor_printf*()Marc-André Lureau
Rename monitor_printf->monitor_hmp_printf, monitor_vprintf-> monitor_hmp_vprintf, and monitor_printc->monitor_hmp_printc, changing the first parameter from Monitor * to MonitorHMP * to enforce type safety. The implementation is also simplified: monitor_hmp_vprintf now directly calls g_strdup_vprintf + monitor_puts, removing the virtual dispatch via moncls->vprintf. The dev_print() callbacks are temporarily using the MONITOR_HMP(mon) cast, they are fixed in the following commits. Early return in qemu_vprintf() if "hmp" is NULL, relying on monitor_hmp_vprintf() handling NULL case is a bit uncommon. 2026-05-25ui/input: Use Linux key codes for internal key eventsAkihiko Odaki
Linux input key codes are a better internal representation than QKeyCode: - With Linux input key codes as the internal representation, keys previously lost solely because the middle layer between event sources and sinks used QKeyCode will be preserved, since Linux key codes cover all keys that those sources and sinks use. For example, KEY_KPJPCOMMA cannot be represented with QKeyCode, but it is widely supported by event sources and sinks since it is included in linux, atset1, atset2, usb, x11, osx, qnum (derived from atset1), xorgxquartz, and xorgevdev (derived from linux). - They make it possible to pass through Linux host key codes to Linux guests to preserve all key inputs. - They simplify consumers by avoiding QKeyCode aliases, namely asterisk/kp_multiply and sysrq/print. This matches the approach used by virtio and Xen. 2026-05-09tools/qemu-vnc: add standalone VNC server over D-BusMarc-André Lureau
Add a standalone VNC server binary that connects to a running QEMU instance via the D-Bus display interface (org.qemu.Display1, via the bus or directly p2p). This allows serving a VNC display without compiling VNC support directly into the QEMU system emulator, and enables running the VNC server as a separate process with independent lifecycle and privilege domain. Built only when both VNC and D-Bus display support are enabled. If we wanted to have qemu -vnc disabled, and qemu-vnc built, we would need to split CONFIG_VNC. This is left as a future exercise. Current omissions include some QEMU VNC runtime features (better handled via restart), legacy options, and Windows support. Reviewed-by: Daniel P. 2026-01-22misc: Clean up includesPeter Maydell
This commit deals with various .c files that included system headers that are already pulled in by osdep.h, where the .c file includes osdep.h already itself. This commit was created with scripts/clean-includes: ./scripts/clean-includes '--git' 'misc' 'hw/core' 'semihosting' 'target/arm' 'target/i386/kvm/kvm.c' 'target/loongarch' 'target/riscv' 'tools' 'util' All .c should include qemu/osdep.h first. The script performs three related cleanups: * Ensure .c files include qemu/osdep.h first. * Including it in a .h is redundant, since the .c already includes it. Drop such inclusions. * Likewise, including headers qemu/osdep.h includes is redundant. Drop these, too. 2025-09-19treewide: handle result of qio_channel_set_blocking()Vladimir Sementsov-Ogievskiy
Currently, we just always pass NULL as errp argument. That doesn't look good. Some realizations of interface may actually report errors. Channel-socket realization actually either ignore or crash on errors, but we are going to straighten it out to always reporting an errp in further commits. So, convert all callers to either handle the error (where environment allows) or explicitly use &error_abort. Take also a chance to change the return value to more convenient bool (keeping also in mind, that underlying realizations may return -1 on failure, not -errno). Suggested-by: Daniel P. 2024-07-22tools: build qemu-vmsr-helperAnthony Harivel
Introduce a privileged helper to access RAPL MSR. The privileged helper tool, qemu-vmsr-helper, is designed to provide virtual machines with the ability to read specific RAPL (Running Average Power Limit) MSRs without requiring CAP_SYS_RAWIO privileges or relying on external, out-of-tree patches. The helper tool leverages Unix permissions and SO_PEERCRED socket options to enforce access control, ensuring that only processes explicitly requesting read access via readmsr() from a valid Thread ID can access these MSRs. The list of RAPL MSRs that are allowed to be read by the helper tool is defined in rapl-msr-index.h. This list corresponds to the RAPL MSRs that will be supported in the next commit titled "Add support for RAPL MSRs in KVM/QEMU." The tool is intentionally designed to run on the Linux x86 platform. This initial implementation is tailored for Intel CPUs but can be extended to support AMD CPUs in the future. 2022-08-02virtiofsd: Disable killpriv_v2 by defaultVivek Goyal
We are having bunch of issues with killpriv_v2 enabled by default. First of all it relies on clearing suid/sgid bits as needed by dropping capability CAP_FSETID. This does not work for remote filesystems like NFS (and possibly others). Secondly, we are noticing other issues related to clearing of SGID which leads to failures for xfstests generic/355 and generic/193. Thirdly, there are other issues w.r.t caching of metadata (suid/sgid) bits in fuse client with killpriv_v2 enabled. Guest can cache that data for sometime even if cleared on server. Second and Third issue are fixable. Just that it might take a little while to get it fixed in kernel. First one will probably not see any movement for a long time. Given these issues, killpriv_v2 does not seem to be a good candidate for enabling by default. We have already disabled it by default in rust version of virtiofsd. Hence this patch disabled killpriv_v2 by default. User can choose to enable it by passing option "-o killpriv_v2". 2022-02-17virtiofsd: Add basic support for FUSE_SYNCFS requestGreg Kurz
Honor the expected behavior of syncfs() to synchronously flush all data and metadata to disk on linux systems. If virtiofsd is started with '-o announce_submounts', the client is expected to send a FUSE_SYNCFS request for each individual submount. In this case, we just create a new file descriptor on the submount inode with lo_inode_open(), call syncfs() on it and close it. The intermediary file is needed because O_PATH descriptors aren't backed by an actual file and syncfs() would fail with EBADF. If virtiofsd is started without '-o announce_submounts' or if the client doesn't have the FUSE_CAP_SUBMOUNTS capability, the client only sends a single FUSE_SYNCFS request for the root inode. The server would thus need to track submounts internally and call syncfs() on each of them. This will be implemented later. Note that syncfs() might suffer from a time penalty if the submounts are being hammered by some unrelated workload on the host. The only solution to prevent that is to avoid shared mounts. 2022-02-17virtiofsd: Add an option to enable/disable security labelVivek Goyal
Provide an option "-o security_label/no_security_label" to enable/disable security label functionality. By default these are turned off. If enabled, server will indicate to client that it is capable of handling one security label during file creation. Typically this is expected to be a SELinux label. File server will set this label on the file. It will try to set it atomically wherever possible. But its not possible in all the cases. 2022-02-17virtiofsd: Create new file using O_TMPFILE and set security contextVivek Goyal
If guest and host policies can't work with each other, then guest security context (selinux label) needs to be set into an xattr. Say remap guest security.selinux xattr to trusted.virtiofs.security.selinux. That means setting "fscreate" is not going to help as that's ony useful for security.selinux xattr on host. So we need another method which is atomic. Use O_TMPFILE to create new file, set xattr and then linkat() to proper place. But this works only for regular files. So dir, symlinks will continue to be non-atomic. Also if host filesystem does not support O_TMPFILE, we fallback to non-atomic behavior. 2022-02-17virtiofsd: Create new file with security contextVivek Goyal
This patch adds support for creating new file with security context as sent by client. It basically takes three paths. - If no security context enabled, then it continues to create files without security context. - If security context is enabled and but security.selinux has not been remapped, then it uses /proc/thread-self/attr/fscreate knob to set security context and then create the file. This will make sure that newly created file gets the security context as set in "fscreate" and this is atomic w.r.t file creation. This is useful and host and guest SELinux policies don't conflict and can work with each other. In that case, guest security.selinux xattr is not remapped and it is passthrough as "security.selinux" xattr on host. - If security context is enabled but security.selinux xattr has been remapped to something else, then it first creates the file and then uses setxattr() to set the remapped xattr with the security context. This is a non-atomic operation w.r.t file creation. This mode will be most versatile and allow host and guest to have their own separate SELinux xattrs and have their own separate SELinux policies. 2022-02-17virtiofsd: Add helpers to work with /proc/self/task/tid/attr/fscreateVivek Goyal
Soon we will be able to create and also set security context on the file atomically using /proc/self/task/tid/attr/fscreate knob. If this knob is available on the system, first set the knob with the desired context and then create the file. It will be created with the context set in fscreate. This works basically for SELinux and its per thread. This patch just introduces the helper functions. Subsequent patches will make use of these helpers. 2022-02-17virtiofsd: Move core file creation code in separate functionVivek Goyal
Move core file creation bits in a separate function. Soon this is going to get more complex as file creation need to set security context also. 2022-02-17virtiofsd: Extend size of fuse_conn_info->capable and ->want fieldsVivek Goyal
->capable keeps track of what capabilities kernel supports and ->wants keep track of what capabilities filesytem wants. Right now these fields are 32bit in size. But now fuse has run out of bits and capabilities can now have bit number which are higher than 31. That means 32 bit fields are not suffcient anymore. Increase size to 64 bit so that we can add newer capabilities and still be able to use existing code to check and set the capabilities.
