ATM device ci_range fields (vpi_bits and vci_bits) represent the
number of bits supported for VPI and VCI addressing on the device.
net/atm/common.c directly uses these fields as bit shift counts:
vpi >> dev->ci_range.vpi_bits
vci >> dev->ci_range.vci_bits
1 << vcc->dev->ci_range.vpi_bits
1 << vcc->dev->ci_range.vci_bits
usbatm_atm_init() sets ci_range.vpi_bits and ci_range.vci_bits to
ATM_CI_MAX (-1), which is defined in <uapi/linux/atmdev.h> as a
sentinel value for userspace ATM_SETCIRANGE requests, not a valid bit
count. Shifting by -1 is undefined behavior and triggers UBSAN
warnings.
ATM UNI cell headers allow up to 8 bits for VPI (0..255) and 16 bits
for VCI (0..65535). Initialize vpi_bits to 8 and vci_bits to 16, as
done by solos-pci.

In cxacru_unbind(), cancel_delayed_work_sync() was conditionally skipped
when poll_state was CXPOLL_STOPPED. However, a work item previously
scheduled when poll_state was CXPOLL_POLLING may still be pending in the
workqueue at the time poll_state transitions to CXPOLL_STOPPED. Skipping
cancel_delayed_work_sync() in this case allows the work to fire after
cxacru_data is freed, causing a use-after-free when cxacru_poll_status()
attempts to acquire instance->poll_state_serialize.
Fix this by always calling cancel_delayed_work_sync() regardless of
poll_state, ensuring no pending or in-flight work can access the freed
instance.

uea_probe() distinguishes a pre-firmware device from a post-firmware one
using the USB id (UEA_IS_PREFIRM()), and stores a different object as the
interface data in each case: a 'struct completion' for a pre-firmware
device (to be waited on in .disconnect()), or a 'struct usbatm_data' for a
post-firmware one.
uea_disconnect() instead tells the two apart by the number of interfaces
of the active configuration (a pre-firmware device exposes a single
interface, ADI930 has 2 and eagle has 3), and casts the interface data
accordingly.
Because the two handlers use different criteria, a crafted device that
advertises a pre-firmware id together with a multi-interface descriptor
(or a post-firmware id with a single interface) makes them disagree: the
small 'struct completion' stored by uea_probe() is then passed to
usbatm_usb_disconnect(), which casts it to 'struct usbatm_data' and takes
instance->serialize, reading past the end of the allocation:

The current code is broken when dynamic ID is involved; in such cases
usb_device_id parameter of probe lives on the heap and the pointer
arithmetic will get an index that is wildly out of bound. xusbatm
initialize the USB device IDs dynamically so it can just use driver_info
too.
Even with conversion, xusbatm still cannot support dynamic IDs, so also set
no_dynamic_id.

ueagle-atm uses the asynchronous request_firmware_nowait() in .probe(),
but does not wait for its completion, not even in .disconnect(); so, if the
device is unplugged meanwhile, its teardown runs concurrently with that.
Even though this inconsistency is worth addressing on its own, it has also
triggered several bug reports in syzbot over the years (some auto-closed)
where the firmware sysfs fallback mechanism (CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER)
creates a firmware subdirectory in the device directory during its removal,
which might hit unexpected conditions in kernfs, apparently, depending at
which point the add and remove operations raced. (See links.)
The pattern is:
usb ?-?: Direct firmware load for ueagle-atm/eagle?.fw failed with error -2
usb ?-?: Falling back to sysfs fallback for: ueagle-atm/eagle?.fw

(Some variations are observed, after fw_load_sysfs_fallback(), e.g., [1].)
While the kernfs side is being looked at, the ueagle-atm side can be fixed
by waiting for the pre-firmware load in the .disconnect() handler.
This change has a similar approach to previous work by Andrey Tsygunka [2]
(wait_for_completion() in .disconnect()), but it is relatively different in
design/implementation; using the Originally-by tag for credit assignment.
This has been tested with:
- synthetic reproducer to check the error path;
- USB gadget (virtual device) to check the firmware upload path;
- QEMU device emulator to check the device ID re-enumeration path;
(The latter two were written by Claude; no other code/text in this commit.)

Per 'Documentation/process/coding-style.rst':
13) Printing kernel messages
... When drivers are working properly they are quiet,
so prefer to use dev_dbg/pr_debug unless something is wrong.
While in there, correct the verb form and add 'with' for clarity.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Remove <linux/hex.h> from <linux/kernel.h> and update all users/callers of
hex.h interfaces to directly #include <linux/hex.h> as part of the process
of putting kernel.h on a diet.
Removing hex.h from kernel.h means that 36K C source files don't have to
pay the price of parsing hex.h for the roughly 120 C source files that
need it.
This change has been build-tested with allmodconfig on most ARCHes. Also,
all users/callers of <linux/hex.h> in the entire source tree have been
updated if needed (if not already #included).

After a recent change in clang to expose uninitialized warnings from
const variables [1], there is a warning in cxacru_heavy_init():
drivers/usb/atm/cxacru.c:1104:6: error: variable 'bp' is used uninitialized whenever 'if' condition is false [-Werror,-Wsometimes-uninitialized]
1104 | if (instance->modem_type->boot_rom_patch) {
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
drivers/usb/atm/cxacru.c:1113:39: note: uninitialized use occurs here
1113 | cxacru_upload_firmware(instance, fw, bp);
| ^~
drivers/usb/atm/cxacru.c:1104:2: note: remove the 'if' if its condition is always true
1104 | if (instance->modem_type->boot_rom_patch) {
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
drivers/usb/atm/cxacru.c:1095:32: note: initialize the variable 'bp' to silence this warning
1095 | const struct firmware *fw, *bp;
| ^
| = NULL
While the warning is technically correct that bp is conditionally passed
uninitialized to cxacru_upload_firmware(), it is ultimately a false
positive warning on the uninitialized use of bp because the same
condition that initializes bp, instance->modem_type->boot_rom_patch, is
the same one that gates the use of bp within cxacru_upload_firmware().
As this warning occurs in clang's frontend before inlining occurs, it
cannot know that these conditions are indentical to avoid the warning.
Manually inline cxacru_upload_firmware() into cxacru_heavy_init(), as
that is its only callsite, so that clang can see that bp is initialized
and used under the same condition, clearing up the warning without any
functional changes to the code (LLVM was already doing this inlining
later).

Syzbot once again identified a flaw in usb endpoint checking, see [1].
This time the issue stems from a commit authored by me (2eabb655a968
("usb: atm: cxacru: fix endpoint checking in cxacru_bind()")).
While using usb_find_common_endpoints() may usually be enough to
discard devices with wrong endpoints, in this case one needs more
than just finding and identifying the sufficient number of endpoints
of correct types - one needs to check the endpoint's address as well.
Since cxacru_bind() fills URBs with CXACRU_EP_CMD address in mind,
switch the endpoint verification approach to usb_check_XXX_endpoints()
instead to fix incomplete ep testing.

Syzbot is still reporting quite an old issue [1] that occurs due to
incomplete checking of present usb endpoints. As such, wrong
endpoints types may be used at urb sumbitting stage which in turn
triggers a warning in usb_submit_urb().
Fix the issue by verifying that required endpoint types are present
for both in and out endpoints, taking into account cmd endpoint type.
Unfortunately, this patch has not been tested on real hardware.

A freezable kernel thread can enter frozen state during freezing by
either calling try_to_freeze() or using wait_event_freezable() and its
variants. So for the following snippet of code in a kernel thread loop:
wait_event_interruptible_timeout();
try_to_freeze();
We can change it to a simple wait_event_freezable_timeout() and
then eliminate a function call.

Since snprintf() has the documented, but still rather strange trait of
returning the length of the data that *would have been* written to the
array if space were available, rather than the arguably more useful
length of data *actually* written, it is usually considered wise to use
something else instead in order to avoid confusion.
In the case of sysfs call-backs, new wrappers exist that do just that.
This patch replaces the 2 uses of snprintf() found in the sysfs .show()
call-backs with the new sysfs_emit() helpers. Whist we're at it, let's
replace the sprintf()s as well. For no other reason than consistency.

The third argument of usb_maxpacket(): in_out has been deprecated
because it could be derived from the second argument (e.g. using
usb_pipeout(pipe)).
N.B. function usb_maxpacket() was made variadic to accommodate the
transition from the old prototype with three arguments to the new one
with only two arguments (so that no renaming is needed). The variadic
argument is to be removed once all users of usb_maxpacket() get

Update complete_and_exit to call kthread_exit instead of do_exit.
Change the name to reflect this change in functionality. All of the
users of complete_and_exit are causing the current kthread to exit so
this change makes it clear what is happening.
Move the implementation of kthread_complete_and_exit from

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertenly introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
