9 daysusb: cdnsp: fix wakeup from S3 after controller context lossPawel Laszczak
CDNSP controller may lose its runtime register programming across S3 suspend/resume, depending on SoC power domain configuration. After resume the operational and interrupter registers may contain reset values, which prevents the gadget side from recovering correctly and breaks wakeup from S3. Fix this by detecting whether the controller lost its register context after resume and handling both cases: - If context was lost (CFG_3XPORT_U1_PIPE_CLK_GATE_EN set or power lost): reset the controller and reprogram the state required for normal operation, including the command ring, DCBAA pointer, doorbell base, event ring, ERST base/size and event ring dequeue pointer. - If context was retained: restart the controller directly without reprogramming registers. Issue a wakeup if the link was in U3 before suspend. Move the basic controller register programming out of the one-time memory initialization path and make it reusable from the resume path. Also separate ring allocation from ring initialization so that rings can be reinitialized without reallocating DMA memory. Always perform the full suspend sequence regardless of the current link state. Previously, if the device was already in U3, the suspend callback returned early without stopping the controller, which could lead to commands being issued on a disabled slot during resume. 2026-08-03usb: cdnsp: fix incorrect endian conversions for APB timeout registerPawel Laszczak
readl() already returns a CPU-endian value. Passing its return value to le32_to_cpu() is therefore redundant and causes an incorrect double byte swap on big-endian systems. Similarly, writel() expects a CPU-endian value, so passing the result of cpu_to_le32() is incorrect. Remove the unnecessary conversions and operate on the MMIO register value as a CPU-endian u32. cdnsp_alloc_stream_info() allocates stream_info->stream_ctx_array with cdnsp_alloc_stream_ctx(). If a later stream ring allocation or stream mapping update fails, the error path frees the allocated stream rings and stream_rings array, but leaves stream_ctx_array allocated. Free the stream context array before falling through to the stream_rings cleanup path. 2026-05-22usb: cdnsp: Add support for device-only configurationPawel Laszczak
This patch introduces support for the Cadence USBSSP (cdnsp) controller in hardware configurations where the Dual-Role Device (DRD) register block is not implemented or is inaccessible. In such cases, the driver cannot rely on the DRD logic to manage roles and must operate exclusively in a fixed peripheral/host mode. The change in BAR indexing (from BAR 2 to BAR 1) is a direct consequence of the 32-bit addressing used in this specific DRD-disabled hardware layout, compared to the 64-bit addressing used in DRD-enabled configurations. Tested on a PCI platform with a hardware configuration that lacks DRD support. Platform-side changes are included to support the PCI glue layer's property injection to handle this specific layout. 2026-05-21usb: cdns3: gadget: fix request skipping after clearing haltYongchao Wu
According to the cdns3 datasheet, the EPRST (Endpoint Reset) command causes the DMA engine to reposition its internal pointer to the next Transfer Descriptor (TD) if it was already processing one. This issue is consistently observed during the ADB identification process on macOS hosts, where the host issues a Clear_Halt. Although commit 4bf2dd65135a ("usb: cdns3: gadget: toggle cycle bit before reset endpoint") attempted to avoid DMA advance by toggling the cycle bit, trace logs show that on certain hosts like macOS, the DMA pointer (EP_TRADDR) still shifts after EPRST: cdns3_ctrl_req: Clear Endpoint Feature(Halt ep1out) cdns3_doorbell_epx: ep1out, ep_trbaddr f9c04030 <-- Should be f9c04000 cdns3_gadget_giveback: ep1out: req: ... length: 16384/16384 As shown above, the DMA pointer jumped to the next TD, causing the controller to skip the initial TRBs of the request. This leads to data misalignment and ADB protocol hangs on macOS. Fix this by manually restoring the EP_TRADDR register to the starting physical address of the current request after the EPRST operation is complete. 2026-04-27usb: cdns3: Add USBSSP platform driver supportPeter Chen
Expose Cadence USBSSP through the same platform path as USBSS, trim Kconfig and Makefile: one core loadable object plus separate glue .ko files. Single cdns.ko bundles core, DRD, the generic "cdns,usb3" platform driver in cdns3-plat.c, optional host.o, and optional gadget objects. Use CONFIG_USB_CDNS3_GADGET as a bool to compile gadget support into that module. Remove duplicate MODULE_* declarations from cdns3-plat.c now that it links into the same module. Kconfig: the generic platform driver is selected via CONFIG_USB_CDNS3. Move CONFIG_USB_CDNSP_PCI beside CONFIG_USB_CDNS3_PCI_WRAP under "Platform glue driver support". SoC glue entries (TI, i.MX, StarFive) depend only on CONFIG_USB_CDNS3. Tighten CONFIG_USB_CDNS_SUPPORT dependencies so the umbrella follows host or gadget when either is built as a module. Match host and gadget bools to the cdns.ko tristate with USB=USB_CDNS3 and USB_GADGET=USB_CDNS3 instead of comparing against USB_CDNS_SUPPORT. Link host.o when CONFIG_USB_CDNS3_HOST is enabled and use that symbol in host-export.h, removing the redundant CONFIG_USB_CDNS_HOST indirection. Export cdns_core_init_role and reorganize the function cdns_init, and controller version could be gotten before the gadget init function is decided per controller. Keep host_init / gadget_init callbacks in struct cdns, so core.c does not need direct linkage to host or gadget objects. Refactor cdnsp-pci.c into a thin PCI-to-platform wrapper. drivers/usb/Makefile: descend into drivers/usb/cdns3/ only when CONFIG_USB_CDNS_SUPPORT is enabled. When cdns3_gadget_start() fails, the DRD hardware is left in gadget mode while software state remains INACTIVE, creating hardware/software state inconsistency. When the gadget endpoint is disabled or not yet configured, the ep->desc pointer can be NULL. This leads to a NULL pointer dereference when __cdns3_gadget_ep_queue() is called, causing a kernel crash. Add a check to return -ESHUTDOWN if ep->desc is NULL, which is the standard return code for unconfigured endpoints. This prevents potential crashes when ep_queue is called on endpoints that are not ready. This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) If the role change while we are suspended, the cdns3 driver switches to the new mode during resume. However, switching to host mode in this context causes a NULL pointer dereference. The host role's start() operation registers a xhci-hcd device, but its probe is deferred while we are in the resume path. The host role's resume() operation assumes the xhci-hcd device is already probed, which is not the case, leading to the dereference. Since the start() operation of the new role is already called, the resume operation can be skipped. So skip the resume operation for the new role if a role switch occurs during resume. The driver uses pcim_enable_device() to enable the PCI device, the device will be automatically disabled on driver detach through the managed device framework. The manual pci_disable_device() calls in the error paths are therefore redundant and should be removed. cdnsp gadget In the __cdnsp_gadget_init() and cdnsp_gadget_exit() functions, the gadget structure (pdev->gadget) was freed before its endpoints. The endpoints are linked via the ep_list in the gadget structure. Freeing the gadget first leaves dangling pointers in the endpoint list. When the endpoints are subsequently freed, this results in a use-after-free. Fix: By separating the usb_del_gadget_udc() operation into distinct "del" and "put" steps, cdnsp_gadget_free_endpoints() can be executed prior to the final release of the gadget structure with usb_put_gadget(). 2025-05-21usb: cdnsp: Fix issue with detecting command completion eventPawel Laszczak
In some cases, there is a small-time gap in which CMD_RING_BUSY can be cleared by controller but adding command completion event to event ring will be delayed. As the result driver will return error code. This behavior has been detected on usbtest driver (test 9) with configuration including ep1in/ep1out bulk and ep2in/ep2out isoc endpoint. Probably this gap occurred because controller was busy with adding some other events to event ring. The CMD_RING_BUSY is cleared to '0' when the Command Descriptor has been executed and not when command completion event has been added to event ring. To fix this issue for this test the small delay is sufficient less than 10us) but to make sure the problem doesn't happen again in the future the patch introduces 10 retries to check with delay about 20us before returning error code. 2025-05-01usb: cdnsp: fix L1 resume issue for RTL_REVISION_NEW_LPM versionPawel Laszczak
The controllers with rtl version larger than RTL_REVISION_NEW_LPM (0x00002700) has bug which causes that controller doesn't resume from L1 state. It happens if after receiving LPM packet controller starts transitioning to L1 and in this moment the driver force resuming by write operation to PORTSC.PLS. It's corner case and happens when write operation to PORTSC occurs during device delay before transitioning to L1 after transmitting ACK time (TL1TokenRetry). Forcing transition from L1->L0 by driver for revision larger than RTL_REVISION_NEW_LPM is not needed, so driver can simply fix this issue through block call of cdnsp_force_l0_go function. 2025-05-01usb: cdnsp: Fix issue with resuming from L1Pawel Laszczak
In very rare cases after resuming controller from L1 to L0 it reads registers before the clock UTMI have been enabled and as the result driver reads incorrect value. Most of registers are in APB domain clock but some of them (e.g. PORTSC) are in UTMI domain clock. After entering to L1 state the UTMI clock can be disabled. When controller transition from L1 to L0 the port status change event is reported and in interrupt runtime function driver reads PORTSC. During this read operation controller synchronize UTMI and APB domain but UTMI clock is still disabled and in result it reads 0xFFFFFFFF value. To fix this issue driver increases APB timeout value. The issue is platform specific and if the default value of APB timeout is not sufficient then this time should be set Individually for each platform. 2025-04-11usb: cdns3: Fix deadlock when using NCM gadgetRalph Siemsen
The cdns3 driver has the same NCM deadlock as fixed in cdnsp by commit 58f2fcb3a845 ("usb: cdnsp: Fix deadlock issue during using NCM gadget"). Under PREEMPT_RT the deadlock can be readily triggered by heavy network traffic, for example using "iperf --bidir" over NCM ethernet link. The deadlock occurs because the threaded interrupt handler gets preempted by a softirq, but both are protected by the same spinlock. Prevent deadlock by disabling softirq during threaded irq handler. Streams should flush their TRB cache, re-read TRBs, and start executing TRBs from the beginning of the new dequeue pointer after a 'Set TR Dequeue Pointer' command. Cadence controllers may fail to start from the beginning of the dequeue TRB as it doesn't clear the Opaque 'RsvdO' field of the stream context during 'Set TR Dequeue' command. This stream context area is where xHC stores information about the last partially executed TD when a stream is stopped. xHC uses this information to resume the transfer where it left mid TD, when the stream is restarted. Patch fixes this by clearing out all RsvdO fields before initializing new Stream transfer using a 'Set TR Dequeue Pointer' command. Fix changes incorrect usb_request->status returned during disabling endpoints. Before fix the status returned during dequeuing requests while disabling endpoint was ECONNRESET. Patch change it to ESHUTDOWN. Patch fixes issue detected during testing UVC gadget. During stopping streaming the class starts dequeuing usb requests and controller driver returns the -ECONNRESET status. After completion requests the class or application "uvc-gadget" try to queue this request again. Changing this status to ESHUTDOWN cause that UVC assumes that endpoint is disabled, or device is disconnected and stops re-queuing usb requests.
